If someone complains about you to HR
do you have the right to know who made the complaint?
I'm wearing white pants to work today. They are by NO means see-thru. I even asked my female co-workers to make sure after this occurred. I get pulled into an office today told to put something over me because a male employee complained to HR that my pants were see-thru and distracting Seriously??
Anyway, I asked who complained and they refused to tell me. Do I have the right to know?

no, you don't have the right to know who complained. on the bright side, good to know you're that distracting to someone.

Re: If someone complains about you to HR
I don't think so. Employees should feel free to go to HR with complaints with a degree of confidentiality. In some circumstances it would be impossible to maintain anonymity but an issue like this doesn't really require disclosure.

ths is true. But I kind of felt like it was done out of malice because like I said, these pants are in no way see through. To top it off, I work in an office environment where we have a lot of younger females around my age who wear short skirts and low cut tops every day of the week. I hardly think my white pants are the worst of it

Nope. Its confidential and they wld want to avoid retaliation in the workplace
I wld'nt want HR to expose me if I was to reach out to them with complaint or a concern.

Re: If someone complains about you to HR
You know what's so wrong about this...is that because ONE person complained...you need to cover up or change your pants.
Does HR ever take into consideration that the person complaining is wrong????
Another thing...I see people in my office everyday wearing questionable attire. I NEVER, EVER, EVER would think to run to HR and complain.

Re: If someone complains about you to HR
Interesting thing to complain about! Personally I think that complaints with HR/ senior mgt should be thought out and used wisely. If your pants were truly that offensive (I am guessing they are niot) and it bothered me that much I would confront the person. Or I might laugh about it to myself

Yea...I thought the same thing when they came to me and asked me to "cover up". What man goes to HR and tells them that they can see through a woman's pants? Either enjoy the show or stop looking
I recently wore the same pants out in the direct sunlight and they weren't see thru...so I have to at HR on this one.

Re: If someone complains about you to HR
Probably was a female complaint and they are just saying it was a man to make it sound "more serious".

Re: If someone complains about you to HR
I would get a lawyer and say that you felt you were being sexually harassed and are now uncomfortable by the fact that someone is obviously looking at you in that way and that you are afraid because HR is protecting that person and you now feel violated and are extremely uncomfortable around the workplace because of it. Blow it out of proportion like everyone else does these days and get a few bucks out of it, not to mention the person that complained will be let go to protect their behinds. These days you can find a lawyer who will take any ridiculous case. Anyway, on the more serious side though, do you have any idea who it is? I had someone constantly harrass me at work once. She complained to the boss everytime I was on the internet, and half the time it was for job related things. She was a 40 year old divorced hag who had nothing better to do than harrass a 22 year old newbie. Well then on Halloween someone egged her house and spraypainted her car and slashed all her tires in front of her house. I guess she ****** someone else off too because no one else on her block was affected. What goes around comes around. The person will get theirs. Wear a low cut top. Then when he/she complains that is too revealing you have a case for someone looking at you in a sexual way. Feel better and keep your head up.

Seriously!!! Glad to know that as an almost 40 yr old hag, that has worked for the same place for 16 years I will be supporting your *** on unemployment for years to come. If that is truly how you think, then I have a feeling you and unemployment are going to be very good friends!

OMG
OK, now back to the OP... My automatic thought is what SMDL said. What did HR think? I have to be honest, HR is usually neutral on these things and if they didnt somehow agree, I dont think they would call you in....JMHO.... They asked you to cover up after they saw you. Oh and I would NOT want HR to tell you who it was. They shouldnt.

Re: If someone complains about you to HR
I dont know what HR thought about my pants because THEY did not speak to me directly. They spoke to my supervisor who was asked to speak to me (I should have clarified that to begin with...sorry for the miscommunication). I will say, that my supervisor told me flat out that she thought my pants were fine which is why instead of sending me home to change she told me that she pacified HR by telling them she would ask me to "cover up" with my lab coat. But she said she didnt see how they were see-thru at all.

If your clothes were not see through, your supervisor should have stuck up for you and I would be ****** at the supervisor. i still dont think HR should tell you who it is though.
