Re: If the world could vote
I didn't vote on the site because I don't wnat to skew any results (I will be voting in the election via absentee ballot), but is there anything stopping someone from voting multiple times? or for NOT voting if you are already an American citizen? How can you see the results without voting?

Re: If the world could vote
If you scroll down a bit, you can click on view results and if you scroll down even further after you do that, you can see the votes broken down based on countried and how many votes were cast.

oops! Didn't scroll down! So it just attributes a country based on your ISP. Okay, get it now. But you could still vote multiple times?

Okay, cool. I didn't want to vote at all, but there is a US category in the country list...
It is amazing, isn't it, that 10's of thousands of people in some countries have logged on to vote, when an amazing number of Americans don't even register what goes on in other countries.

Because the issues that effect Americans domestically are not the same that effect the world. Despite having less foreign policy experience, Obama appears the more outward facing candidate. Also, Europe tends to be more liberal and has more social systems in place than the US, like nationalized healthcare. Obama is much more familiar to them than
The stereotype of America in most parts of the world is a huge, very conservative, bible beating, power hungry, gas guzzling country with little social conscience (this is not my opinion, by the way, I'm telling you what I encounter on a day to day basis). The rest of the world would like to see a leader in place who will address issues that effect them - like environmental issues, like withdrawing from the Middle East.

I think alot of countries are more liberal than the US....at least it seems that way in my mom's country- Finland- they have a female president, so they've definitely embraced changing times.....and on a sidenote, the Finnish president has been spoofed many many times by Conan O'Brien (saying he looks like her) if you've ever watched it, its pretty hysterical!

very well said!!! let me just add, when I went to an "American" themed bar w/ my cousin last time I was in Finland, it had mechanical bulls and it made it seem like we were all "cowboys" over here in the US.....I don't know how long that bar had been open and whether they were basing that idea off of Bush, but who knows. it kind if had me laughing b/c obviously we're not all cowboys or country folk.

Thanks to both of you who explained it! I don't know if its too early or something but it just confused me LOL but it makes sense.
I guess I should have realized this since most of my family in Italy is in the Communist Party.

Re: If the world could vote
The country that suprised me the most is Venezuela.
I have heard before that Obama is way ahead in polls in other countries. It's not surprising, I think his persona is more appealing interantionally, and he is much more open to diplomacy and mending rifts than McCain. And if he borders on socialism, that's not scary to most other people around the world.

I get that, too. I am in the US at the moment and I go back after election day. I hear all this stuff on a daily basis, or just general comments about Americans, so I understand what you are saying. If Obama gets elected, I think the way the world looks at us will change and our image will improve greatly.
On another note- what's happening in Burkina Faso?
