I'm going to hazard to guess no... I think an ear infection really is caused by internal factors... not so much outside sources... not to say he cant get an irritation or something, or swimmers ear... but I dont think he could get an actual ear infection... but, last time I checked, I'm not a doctor!

I wonder that too.
If I fill the tub enough to cover his body, it covers his ears.
If I keep it shallow enough to nto get in his ears, it barely covers his butt.

This is what I've read. Getting water in their ears can not cause an infection.
He could be teething and that's whyhe's rubbing his ears. They feel the pressure in their ears when the teeth are coming through.

from reading this i was just thinking...maybe he has water clogged in his ear...you know like when you go in the pool and sometimes its like clogged there....i dont think you can get an infection from water in the ear but im not to sure...i know i used to get ear infections all the time when i was little and from the babies i have seen they tug at the ear lobe more than scratch when they have an ear infection...hope this makes you feel a lil better

Definitely go to the ped - we cant clean out their ears because the canal is too small, but they have a special little thing they can put in his ear to clean it out - they had to do it with Cailena few times.... and that way if it is an ear infection, then they can catch it asap!

The important piece of the article...
Ear infections happen when Eustachio's tube is blocked. Although a myriad of factors can lead to a blocked tube, getting water in your baby's ears won't. Enjoy bath time!
I figure, if water can get in, it can definitely evaporate. The water in the ear won't stay there for very long.

My understanding is that with some children the canals are just to small and although the water itself does not cause an infection, the presence of water becomes a breeding ground for bacteria which causes and actual infection. That's why peds don't like to see water remaining in the canal but other than attempting to dry the ear as best you can, there is not much else to do.

Re: If water goes in the ear (at bath time) will this cause an ear infection????
I pour water over DS's head to get the shampoo out and it goes in his ear. I use the baby q-tips after to absorb some of the water out but DS has never gotten an ear infection and I've been doing this for a few months. I think there are other factors involved but it's also not like he sticks his head under the water enough to get his ears water logged.
