Re: If you are bilingual

I guess it will be hard since we are not going to be around any Spanish people(moving to NC) so just my DH speaking Spanish and I could do vocabulary with them, then maybe an hour of spanish TV a day?

I am going to have the whitest Puerto Ricans. DH said we should give up because they will probably become rednecks once we move

both my parents speak spanish because they weren't born here.
Will speaks spanish but not that good although he has improved a lot.
I speak spanish to Alia sometimes although I have been lacking but I want her to speak spanish when she is home and english in school.

DH was like that. His mom only spoke Spanish, his dad knew a little English. At home they always spoke spanish. He had to go to ESOL classes.

Re: If you are bilingual

My family is from Haiti, so we speak Creole and french. I used to speak it very well, but since I left home after high school I really don't speak Creole anymore. I do plan on teaching my son Creole as he grows up.

Both parents were born In Italy...but Dad speaks Italian & Spanish (was raised in Venezuela)
DH speaks Spanish (Argentine)
I speak Italian and a little spanish...well I understand it but have to speak slow (I mix my Italian and Spanish up!

I will teach our children Italian (with the help of my side of the family) and he will teach them Spanish (with my dad and his side of the family)

I didn't speak English until school..and I have to say...It's neat knowing more than one lingo!

DH is bilingual and my in-laws only speak spanish at home. My son (2 1/2) is with them twice a week. I think he understands it but he still only says a few words.Chat Icon I really wanted him to be more conversant.
