If you can bestow a talent to your child...? POLL

If you were able to bestow a special trait or talent to your child, what would it be?

intelligence....

both DH and I are researchers (DH= molecular biologist Me: neuropharmacologist)

Scone already had a 'future biochemist' onesie and a bib that spells out 'think' in amino acid structures

but actually, DH and I keep discussing what we hope he DOESN'T inherit...

my skin ( a lot of melanoma in my family)
my front teeth (too big!)
his propensity for nervous ticks

That's #1 on my list too since DH and I both value this trait highly... Social savvy is definitley #2 on our list.

social savvy and being a scientist seldom occur together.... since both of us are scientists, poor Scone would be on his own developing that trait Chat Icon

If he DOES, he'd be able to escape our career track and do something more lucrative Chat Icon

I answered "high intelligence."

BUT

If I could bestow MY best ability on to my own child, it would be my ability to express myself with words.

If I could bestow DH's best ability on to my own child, it would be his sense of practicality, organization and management as well as bookkeeping skills.

DH and I both voted for intelligence. We are both extremely intelligent (though in very different ways) and we'd like to see our Chat Icon have that same easy time with school. It's important.

Other than that, we are both musically inclined--it would be great if our DD was, too. Chat Icon

I said other. Ultimately I want my baby to be happy, so I would say my easy-going, optimistic attitude.

Intelligence

Both my hubby and I have strong beliefs that having a strong education is a cornerstone to a successful life.

(not that we did, ha!)

Most of our family and friends say our poor kid will be a geek.

I was a biology major college and was running biology tests at a very young age (growth of ants, plants, reactions to environments, etc) I was reading very very young and doing my brother's math homework before I was in 2nd grade.

My hubby has kid pictures of him reading at a young age and a really cute picture of him and his first hand made battery at the age of 5.

We weren't given the best of oppurtunities to grow. His parents being foreigners (Chinese) didn't know the right way to get him more involved in schooling or his talents. My parent (Dad) was a D minus student himself and could barely keep up with what I was learning and never thought to help me pursue more challanging studies.

We have both regretted not being given a chance to learn more or go farther.

We want to give that to our child.

(Second to that.... Musical Skill Chat Icon )

Re: If you can bestow a talent to your child...? POLL

Sports/Athletic abilities

DH and I (DH-educator, Me-Legal field)are intellectuals that are also socially sophisticated and have both had pretty solid backgrounds so I chose having an athletic gift to be a trait I would hope for my child.

In the U.S., it seems that those that have above-average athletic abilities have greater privileges and opportunities than perhaps others may not recieve. Sad but true and I would want my child to have every available opportunity in life as possible.

I also believe being a part of a professional sports organization puts great importance on teamwork, hardwork and health.

Not to mention, it would be great to see our kid in pinstripes or olympic gold :)
