If you didn't/stopped breast feeding did you take a pill to dry up whatever supply you had?
My son was fed formula for the first day and a half of life. While I was in the hospital I tried breast feeding but it was really stressful.
I have a big boy who doesn't like to wait for food so it hurts to see him cry hysterics when he's hungry. I feed him 4 ounces of formula every 3-4 hours. When I do pump I'll get anywhere from 3-4 oucnes of milk only 2 times during the day. I would give him whatever I pump at the next feeding. He eats mostly formula and I did feed him as much colustrum in the hospital.
I feel like giving up on the milk and exclusively feeding him formula since 90% of the time he's taking formula.
Do I call the doctor and get some kind of pill to dry up the breasts. What do I do? Again, it makes me sad I did want to breast feed but realistically it's just not happening. My baby will be two weeks this Friday.

i don't believe meds are used any longer to dry up milk supply. i think you will have to bind your breasts and your supply will dry up on its own. i'm not sure of the details of how to do it because i haven't done it, but i don't think it's hard.

Nope, there are no more meds. Just slowly decrease the amount of your pumping so your body has time to adjust.

I think most doctors prefer that you dry up on your own without the use of medication - although it is available.
I am in the process of ending my milk supply but it also seems to be happening on it's own. I have reduced my pumping sessions in response to my decrease...whereas most people do it the other way around - reducing the sessions which reduces the supply.

I tried bf in the hospital too but I also felt that it was too stressful. When my milk finally came in I wore a tight sports bra and put packs of frozen peas on my boobs

They don't give you meds...wear a tight sports bra and put ice packs in it,....since you're newly postpartum, the milk will dry up in a couple of days...it is painful, but your mik will dry up much faster if you resist the urge to pump. And try to keep your breasts out of the warm water in the shower.
Look into the cold cabbage leaf technique too, I didn't do this but I heard it works.

i had a breast infection and stopped cold turkey, it was so hard and i was terribly engorged for like the first week but i used ice and wore a tight sports bra and by the end of week 2, my boobs were so much better. I didn't stop leaking milk though for a couple months. also dont take hot showers, or run hot/warm water on your chest as it stimulates milk production

I bound them with ace bandages, wore a super tight sports bra and iced them and they were still painfully engorged for about a week but I think that's all you really can do.

I am going through the same thing right now... I dont know what caused my milk production to decrease so drastically, I am blaming my birth control even though it was a mini pill... I havent pumped since Saturday and I feel fine so I am assuming this is it... what I did I would just drop 1 pumping session every few days and at the end I would pump only when I was in pain... I never thought I would feel so sad about not pumping cause it was such a pain in the butt but now I kinda miss it...

Re: If you didn't/stopped breast feeding did you take a pill to dry up whatever supply you had?
I BF'ed for like a week and a half. When I stopped I had about 3 painful days and then it got a lot better. They still leak a little so I wear a bra with the nursing pads in them 24/7 but they feel a lot better now. I put frozen bags of peas in my bra. It really helped!
