If you ever had a flight that was cancelled...
what did the airline do for you?
I was in Italy recently and my flight home was cancelled and rescheduled for the next day. We, along with other people on our flight missed work and had to stay overnight in a hotel (paid for by the airline).
Just curious to hear other experiences as I pursue getting some sort of compensation!

We got a refund from American Airlines b/c one of our flights into NY was cancelled due to a blizzard.

We got a hotel voucher for the night - we got stuck in LA on our way to Tahiti for our honeymoon.

You're supposed to get a free round-trip voucher for a future flight. You also should have gotten meal vouchers to cover your meals for the extra night.

I don't think they reimburse you for a lost day of pay. Just hotel and meals and getting you to your destination.
I've only been on one cancelled flight and they actually scrambled and had us (and a bunch of others) fly to another city and catch another flight home.

I got the same thing... they put me on another flight that flew into a city nearby my destination, then paid for a car to take me from that airport to the orginal airport... i also got avoucher to get a meal while i waited at the airport... but that was it  i should have fought for a free flight!!

I know one of the travel people on here can probably best answer this like - Melissar - but my understanding is that it depends on why it was cancelled and how long the delay was.
I am not sure but I think at the least they should provide a hotel and meal vouchers. When my flights have been cancelled if they could get me on another flight right away they really haven't done much (but I only had a two hour delay) I think they gave me a phone voucher to call my ride and a meal voucher.
It never hurts to write and ask for some sort of flight vouchers as compensation for missing work.
When my flight was cancelled due to weather I got nothing - they told me well I will get you home in a few days and since all flights are cancelled that is the earliest I can get you back. I was visiting DH before we got married and didn't need the vouchers (nor was I too upset since it meant I got 2-3 extra days with him)

I had a flight cancelled due to weather in January and they didn't do much for me other than make me wait 8 hours in the airport to take two other flights to get to the same destination
