If you get an invite that says "No Gifts Please" & hows CAVO in Astoria?

We're going to a hubby's familiy (I think distant relatives, we see them only at big occasions), 60th anniversary dinner at a restaurant.

The invite says "No gifts please" but I just cant to go a party without a gift Chat Icon
My hubby thinks we will look like the oddball out if we bring a gift Chat Icon I think its just common courtesy to bring something..

what do you think ?

Also, my MIL said its "no children" although no one told me that, and its NOT in the invite, but I'll take her word for it Chat Icon Chat Icon and enjoy a nite without my 3 monkeys Chat Icon
Astoria ladies- whats the atmosphere like at Cavo's ? Casual, formal ?

Cavo is really nice. I would call it "trendy".

Maybe make a donation to DebG in the name of the person whose birthday party you are going to? You can print up a certificate on your computer and put it in the card.
Just a thought...

thats what I thought. I may have even been there a few years back (I grew up in Astoria and moved to LI 6yrs ago)
I was surprised to see theyre having it at a "trendy" type place so I wanted to make sure I wasnt confused.
works for me, but weird being theyre an older "family style" couple.

Considering it's a 60th anniversary, I'm assuming the couple is pretty old. They probably just don't want to wind up with a bunch of "stuff." I would probably just get a nice card, and maybe a bottle of chanpagne.

Yeah a nice card and a bottle of champagne or wine is fine.

Kavo is pretty casual. Anna we went there a couple of years ago with your sister and your friend Marilena.

i have a 50th anniversary that says no gifts. we are going to bring a card and get a gift certificate at one of their favorite restaurants. I was thinking donation, but their son said that they would like the restaurant. which reminds that i have to trek to that restaurant and get it.

Re: If you get an invite that says "No Gifts Please" & hows CAVO in Astoria?

We had a surprise 65th birthday for my father, and we also noted on the invitation to not bring gifts.

Well......only one out of 40 did NOT bring one. So, technically, the saying didn't matter. Everyone bought something for him, although it was completely unnecessary.

So to be honest, if you intend to bring a gift, you will not look like an oddball by any means.

I'm in the same boat. 50th anniversary, no gifts on the invite. We're going to probably get a gift cert at a restaurant for them.

I wouldn't bring a gift, if you really want to give them something, send flowers to their house and give them a card.

I'm going to a 50th wedding anniversary party this sat. and the same thing is on the invite.
DH and I are making a dvd for them with pics from the past, present, and the party. We are going to give it to them around the holidays.
My brother and sil picked up an Lenox frame. I'd just feel funny not giving something.

Re: If you get an invite that says "No Gifts Please" & hows CAVO in Astoria?

If it said no gifts, I would not bring a gift to respect the person's wishes or maybe make a donation in their name.

We had a 25th anniversary surprise party for my parents and wish we had told people no gifts. They got a lot of silver things for the house my mom never used. My mom said she would have preferred that people saved their money - she was thrilled they came.
