If you get into an accident and it isn't your fault...
Do you still have to contact your insurance company?

I would say if there was damage to the other person's car - yes I would contact them. But I think you have up to 10 days to contact them

this just happened to me...however I was in a three car accident that wasn't my fault...so I contacted my insurance...and they have been handling everything for me

No, it shouldn't... especially if it can be proven that the accident wasn't your fault.

Yes, we just got into an accident last month. Guy fell asleep at the wheel and hit us So we had to contact our insurance so they could give us $$$ to get our damage fixed. Our insurance is contacting his insurance to get the $$$ for the deductible.

We just went through this... If there are injury's, your insurance company is the only one that will pay them.... also, if there is debate over whose fault it is, the other insur. co. may not take responsibility and your car will take forever to get fixed...in our case, we were sitting at a red light...the other person blew the light and slammed into us...we had 3 independent witnesses state they blew the light......This person is now claiming their light was green.....so our car can't be fixed until fault is determined......If you think this person is going to deny responsibility, you should contact your ins. co. and let the two insur. co. fight it out.I hope no-one was hurt....GL

Correct.
As per your Family Auto Policy (or FAP) that you agree to when insuring with a company- you need to disclose any and all information involving motor vehicle accidents.
This way, if the other company comes after you- your company has the information to go back at them with and is prepared.

I was in a 3 car accident (dumb arse came off northern state onto 347 and slammed right into me at a red light and pushed me into the car in front of me)...thankfully, no injuries. I did contact my insurance co. who contacted his insurance co. and they paid all the damages to my car.

It may go up more if the other Insurance Company gets notified by their Policyholder and then they will call you and consider you more of a "risk" because you didn't report the accident.
It is stated in the FAP that they prefer any and all accidents to be reported within the first 24-48 hours

Right, that's why in a case like that it is best to go through your own insurance for the repairs, pay your deductible and then your company will, after your car is all fixed and you are driving around in it again, go after the other company to re-coop what they paid out (including your deductible)... It is called subrogration and then you, in most cases, will get the money you laid out back... it just takes time.
With injuries, each person is covered under their own PIP (personal injury protection) and then the companies will go after each other to pay those bills back... but so you are not involved and nothing is getting delayed they take care of that through "no fault" and that way- nothing is held up for the people insured.

I definately let my Insurance Co handle it. I was injured and in shock and couldn't deal. My rates are going down right now!

yup...the girl who caused my accident, her insurance company already told me that they are taking 100% liability for this accident and they don't want me to pay anything out of pocket...they paid my deductible and will be paying medical expenses i will have, especially since i was hurt
