If you got a homemade diaper cake...

what was in it?

My friend's shower is in two weeks, and I am feeling ambitious and I'd like to make a diaper cake. I got one from MIL, but it was from 1-800 Flowers and had some weird crap in it.

What do you put in a homemade one? Just diapers?

Also, I have 75,000 little caps that we never washed and DS never worn and since my friend is having a boy and due in December, I'd like to try to incorporate them.

TIA!!

(Oh and if anyone has made one, show me, show me!)

Mine didn't have anything else in it except for diapers. There was a little rattle stuffed animal tied with the bow at the top...but DD never got that stuffed animal, because the cat kept knocking it off the shelf before she came home...so it's his toy now. Chat Icon

I've made 3. I only use diapers, ribbon and a few fake flowers. These are the directions I used: Link for directions

One of them was for my maid of honor so I also did a big wicker basket with toys, bottles, formula, bibs, blanket, etc.

This is the one I did for my MOH

This one I did recently for one of the partners at DH's firm. It was based on one I saw on the FAO Schwarz website.

Yeah, I've gone a bit overboard with gifts, I got her a newborn to toddler rocker, a cute blanket, an outfit and bibsChat Icon

I figured this would be fun b/c I just found diapers under my bed (Chat Icon ) that I can use to make it.

Do you have pics?

Those are really cute!!

I am going to attempt one made of towels for my sister's bridal shower. I found cute pink and brown ribbon super cheap at Michael's.

Re: If you got a homemade diaper cake...

Mine was diapers on the outside, but the inside had clothes and toys. It was all put together by a baseball bat, standing straight up. Let me post pics, layer by layer.External Image

Re: If you got a homemade diaper cake...

I just made one for DH's cousin, I should have taken pics. I used diapers , in some of the diaper spots I put onsies ( rolled them like a diaper) on top ( she is having twins) I put 2 bottles and instead of candy I put onsies in there too. then to decorate each layer had a different theme. the bottom layer were more onsies than the other two, the second layer had diaper creams, small packages of wipes, bath shampoo and skin lotion, top layer had two teethers, two paci and two paci attatchments and then the very top had the two bottles and 2 small rubber duckies.

Re: If you got a homemade diaper cake...

I do diapers usually around a roll of paper towels, wipes or formula (for those who state they are not bfing) it helps get the shape right.....then tie on socks to look like roses, add shampoo, small toys like rattles and things, and maybe an outfit or two (depending on how much we are spending!) ...i don't use real ribbon all the time, sometimes I use curly ribbon which looks cute...

i don't think I ever took a pic of one i made....Chat Icon sorry...silly now that I think of it!

Re: If you got a homemade diaper cake...

My mother made me a diaper cake for my shower and it was all pampers with ribbon tied around each layer and a cute pooh bear candle on top-it was adorable!

Re: If you got a homemade diaper cake...

My sister used to make them and she would tie 3 cute bottles together to make the cake "topper" and she would use little booties, mittens, travel shampoos and lotions, small toys, to tie in different places around the outside to decorate. Also she didn't roll each diaper, she opened each one and rolled one around the other to make each layer, and then the outside looked smooth like real icing. They always came out gorgeous!

Re: If you got a homemade diaper cake...

Diapers, pacifiers, rattles, 2 small stuffed animals, 3 wrist rattles, the binky holders. a bib and the bath accessories (towel, wrap, washcloths).

MIL made it & pinned the other items to the outside & made them look like a cascade down the front of the cake.

Hey that Diaper Cake looks familiar!

"MyRockette", my SIL ... made this for me and I have to say it was amazing. It was so pretty I didn't want to take it apart. When I did I was so surprised! There were so many things in it. Each layer was a compartment.
