I thought so too.
I was thinking the same thing..i guess this ecomony for some isn't that bad to spend 1K or more on a bag or tax refunds right back into the ecomony

When it comes to prada, fendi etc...I find that when Saks has its huge sales at the end of the season, esp this past winter, the prices are better than haute..I scored a gorgeous ruffle leather prada bag that was originally 2100 for 6something at the saks sale

to be honest, I am not all that impressed w/the prices on Rue La La.
some stuff is a great deal, but overall, you can do better at outlets or Saks off 5th/NM Last Call/Century 21
eta: I am only referring to the bags
also, I have a feeling that they have a very limited qty on a lot of these items for them to sell out so fast.
