If you have 2+ young kids and live in a Cape, what is your rooming situation like?
If there are 2 bedrooms downstairs & 2 upstairs, with 2+ young kids, where does everyone sleep?
We are contemplating a cape but we have a 3 year old & a 7 month old & they would have to share a room for a long time if we didn't move first. I don't think I would feel comfortable having my child on a different floor than DH&myself until they were 10 or so.

We have a cape with 2 bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs. The master bedroom and my son's room are upstairs and my daughter's room is downstairs. I have no issue with her being on a different floor. We have a video monitor that scans between the two rooms while they sleep.

We had a cape but, renovated.
We had 1 DS at the time and we were all upstairs. If we didn't renovate, both boys would be upstairs sharing a room (they share a room now as well).

I have the same problem, 2 bedrooms on 2 floors. The first year the girls slept in our room then they moved into the second room to share. I don't like any of our choices. I would rather them share and be on one floor. My ultimate plan is to move or dormer over the front (the back is already dormered) If they have to go in two rooms then I would prefer them to be upstairs. I feel safer with them on the second floor and I feel like as teenagers it would be harder for them to sneak out of the house LOL

I only have 1 but we are on different floors and although I was hesitant before she was born, I am 100% fine with it and I can't imagine having it differently. It works very well for us for many reasons.

I can see this is a positive as well with the noise factor.

Re: If you have 2+ young kids and live in a Cape, what is your rooming situation like?
We have 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs also. Currently we only have DS but will be TTC'ng #2 soon. Our master and DS's room are on the 1st floor and we decided that when DC#2 comes we are going to keep it as his and move him or her upstairs. For us, it makes no sense to put DS who is will be walking upstairs. DC#2 will be in the room w/us for the first month or 2. As others have mentioned, between the monitors, gates, fire & co detectors I feel completely safe. Of course I would prefer having us all on 1 floor together but we are considering moving in the next 2 yrs so it makes no sense to price ourselves out of our neighborhood. If we decide not to move, then I will def be blowing out the top and putting us all upstairs.

We have a master upstairs, each of our boys have their own room downstairs - We moved upstairs when we had the 2nd - I wasn't thrilled w/ the idea - but we don't have a Colonial ......so it is what it is.
And it's been totally fine.
I can hear everything even w/o the monitor

Re: If you have 2+ young kids and live in a Cape, what is your rooming situation like?
i only have one but we are planning on having another one. both upstaris rooms are the largest in the house and theres on decent size downstaris and a small room.
Since i did not think it was fair to have one kid upstairs and the other downstaris, and i didnt think it was fair for one kid to have really small room we decided that current DD will have one of the upstairs room and we are downstaris; the small room downstairs will/is a play room (DD is currently sleeping in there cause i am waiting for DH to finish her room )
I am way to lazy to setup a room to have to move it later down the road so we just are doing it how we know it will be. Im a little nervouse about it but it is what it is and really its not that big of deal when i think about it.

exactly - for example dh gets up at 4:30am on work days and is probably the least quiet person EVER (consistenly wakes me up). i can only imagine if he was stomping around and DD's room was right there.

I have a cape, we have 3 bedrooms upstairs and 1 downstairs. We have decided to put the new baby's nursery downstairs. Stinks but its the only way we could so. My kids are 2 and 3 and NOT ready to room together! (for all different reasons) but it would be SOOOO ncie if I could put the boys together and have her nursery upstairs!

We have one bedroom upstairs and two down... both kids are downstairs... when we first moved here, I was nervous about it, but honestly, with the video monitors, it doesn't bother me at all... we have DC#3 on the way, and are thinking of moving my 4 and 2 year old upstairs together (since the room is so big) then putting baby downstairs with us...

Re: If you have 2+ young kids and live in a Cape, what is your rooming situation like?
We have 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs (master and a small office type room). The kids are both upstairs, have always been since they were a few weeks old. Works out perfectly for us and I never had much of an issue being on a different floor. We have always used video monitors and then once DS turned 3 he was able to come get us at night if he needed us (or scream from the top of the stairs ). We are hoping to move and I would like to have all bedrooms upstairs, but that is more for heating issues and general flow.
