If you have a pool in your backyard
what rules do you have regarding it with your children ?
Trying to think ahead for next year
I don't think I want anyone but DH or I taking them in the pool, if we are not home they don't go in.
Just thinking of what else....
Thanks

Same for DD, but thought I should know them now. So I'm not making them up as I go along thru the summers.
The nanny drownings made me thing of that one.
CPR teacher told me if her young child goes in the backyard, they must put a life jacket on. Toying with that one...

Re: If you have a pool in your backyard
We have our pool fenced off, its an inground pool. My son is two-he is never allowed in the backyard alone and if we take him in the fenced in area around the pool he has to be wearing his vest. We have an alarm in the pool, an alarm on the gate that leads to the pool. I also just ordered an alarm for the door in my family room that leads out to the backyard. I know people might think that is extreme but I am trying to take every precaution. We are in the process of signing up for swimming lessons for him and we have to take a CPR class. I love having the pool but it is also really nerve wracking!

Re: If you have a pool in your backyard
We had a lot of work done to the backyard this spring and because of the work needed to take down the fence around the pool. We still haven't decided which type of fence to put up, safety pool (mesh one's) or a chain link. So as of now if they are on the grass they are not aloud past the rocks (there is goose egg stones about 1 foot wide then another 2-3 feet of mulch before the cement). If one foot is on that rock they loose pool privileges.
If they are not playing on the lawn then they are not aloud off the patio. If they are playing ball on the patio and the ball lands under the table we have by the pool and they need to let me know.
By the pool when we want to go in. They both always have to have swimmies on.
They are 3 & 4. They really do not have any interest in being by the pool unless one of us are going in. I am in the process of looking for a place that offers swimming lesson because I feel that is the best protection.
As far as other people taking my kids into the pool. I haven't been in that situation where I wasn't home yet.

my mom did that one with my brother and my younger would wait at the door for anyone to put it on before going outside - he got that trained - he had tan lines that matched the vest
we have a power cover so it must always be covered when not using and i will only let my husban and I, my parents, take him in the pool
i have to see how my inlaws swinm before i let them with him in the pool - i may only let them take him in the pool with a life jacket on
remermber there is a difference between bubbles and swimmies and life jackets - bubbles and swimmies are to aid them in swimming and life jackets are to save lives
