If you have HBO, you must watch Grey Gardens...
with Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange. It is incredible! DH and I were riveted and barely even changed position for the duration of the movie. It's a true story and completely fascinating.
I don't have any particular fondess for Drew Barrymore, but her acting was amazing!!
A must see!!

I watched it on Saturday night - after spending the day in the Hamptons

I believe it's an adaptation of the Broadway musical Grey Gardens--based upon the lives of Big and Little Edie Beale (but it's not a musical). A good amount of the film intersperses "video" of that documentary. It starts with the documentarians visiting the house and then goes back into the past to see how it all started...and then sort of a back and forth from there...
I'm still thinking about this movie two days later...

I just watched it and it's a disturbing story but a terrific movie. I never really liked Drew Barrymore. I always thought she was a terrible actress but she was phenomenal as Little Edie. I think she's going to win awards for this role. Jessica Lange is great as well. I highly recommend this movie.

Thanks for recommending the movie - I watched it last night. It was a great moving and as the PP stated, the story is disturbing. I never heard of them before this.

I seen it twice already!! It was absolutley amazing. Beautifully acted by both Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange. A must see!

If you can get a change to see the Maysles documentary Grey Gardens, you should. Its amazing, what characters in such a sad story. The house they lived in has been bought and brought back to its originaly Hamptons Glory. Its put out by the Criterion Collection, so its quite easy to get hold of these days.
okay, just watched a trailer for the HBO film and I can't wait to see it!! Thanks for starting this thread!
