If you have IGS

how long do you let each zone run?

Do you vary it if the zone has sprinkler heads that water all around constantly versus the ones that move back and forth?

And do you vary it based on if the zone is lawn or shrubs or planting beds?

I feel like our landscaper has ours set for a REALLY long time right now - 20-40 mins per zone and we have 8 zones. I just can't believe that the lawn needs 4 hours of water every other day.

Re: If you have IGS

Your lawn doesn't need 4 hours. It probably needs 20-40 minutes. Unless the zones overlap (which wouldn't make much sense), your lawn is only getting 20-40 minutes. You don't combine the total running time. You could technically run all 8 zones at once for 20-40 minutes and get the same effect. The separate zones are partially to help with water pressure.

We have 8 zones as well and we vary the zone times depending on where they are located. In the height of the summer, we have some zones going for 30-40 minutes because our lawn was looking dead if we did it for less time. As for right now, we have each zone going for about 15-20 minutes. We don't have the ability to have all zones going at once.

Re: If you have IGS

what type do you have? do you rotating or non-rotating?

The non-rotating would need less time whereas the rotating nozzles need more time to put down the same amount of water evenly.

ours is 15 mins per zone every other day. We will change it to 20 mins per zone everyday once it gets warmer out

25 minutes. We had it at 15 last year and our lawn didn't look so good, the landscaper recomended this.

Thanks for the input. Some zones have the rotating heads, some have stationary. Our controller doesn't let you turn on more than one zone at a time. I'm going to cut some of the zones back, I just feel like so much water is being wasted with the system being on for 4 hours every other day.
