If you have Manhattanite friends
I have a lot of Manhattan friends, and I feel like yeah there's more to do in manhattan, I guess, but I feel we're always going to Manhattan to see them, and they don't want to come to Queens on LI, like it's such a long trip..as if it's not an equally long trip INTO Manhattan.
the restaraunt week post had me thinking. FH lives in Nassau, and he went to lunch with his friend for NYC rest. week in manhattan, would his friend take the trip to LI to for LI rest. week? I'm thinking no.
Do you experience this?

Re: If you have Manhattanite friends
yes- most of my friends live in the city - I used to live there also
once you are in the city- you never want to leave
I always go in to see them b/c 1- I have a car 2- they are lost once they get over the bridge or thru the tunnel- they aren't from LI

Re: If you have Manhattanite friends
I probably woudn't come to LI for restaurant week if I was them. I'd take Manhattan Restaurant Week over Nassau County's any day .
Maybe if you couple it with an outdoor concert in a park..
eta. My Manhattanite friends just came out to Fire Island this past weekend. The beach is a good lure too.

Re: If you have Manhattanite friends
Not sure if this applies to your friends but, I live in NYC and for the most part, meet up with friends here. It is hard to venture outside NYC to meet friends on weekend nights because we usually do not keep a car in the city and, honestly, I don't like taking the subway at midnight. So, if we are going out to dinner or for drinks or movie on a friday or saturday night, while getting there would be fine, it might be difficult getting back. Plus, then my friends would have to pick us up and drive us back to the train or subway which, depending on where we are going might not be the best thing. It is hard to understand the life of manhattanites unless you live here

Re: If you have Manhattanite friends
As a Manhattanite up until recently- we are very provencial and do not like to leave the city for anything-- even if it is a short subway ride.
Also-- those with a car-- it's easier for you to come see people in the city, then it is for people without a car to take mass transportation to wherever it is they would be going.

I do have a car, but you know what parking in manhattan is like!
Actually altely, I am the annoying girl from queens who DRIVES everywhere in manhattan. because esp at night my train ride is really long, compared with a 25 min drive.
ETA: I'm the one with 100 posts like "What is parking like on 92nd and lex" all the time.

And also, I drive my manhattan friends all over the place! In and out of manhattan. I met my friend for lunch and I drove her to Brooklyn so she didn't have to take the subway to an appointment she had..like you could get on the A train and come to my place once in awhile!

I have friends in Manhattan who I used to work with and none of them want to come out here. Instead, I end up going to the city.

Re: If you have Manhattanite friends
Most of my friends live in Queens or Long Island now but when they did -- they were in queens a lot. For the most part Manhattan was an easier meeting place since I worked in the city and was already there. But otherwise, I can recall my friends coming to me a lot on the weekends as well.

I find this to be true a lot also.

I live in Manhattan and never want to leave the island, so I feel your pain. But, we're moving to NJ in 10 days so I'll see what it's like on the other side of the fence now!

Exactly. Especially if it's for a night that involves drinking, no one wants to drive into the city. And parking is a nightmare or really $$$. I rather not drive into the city, I rather take mass transportation so they could do the same to come out to LI.

Re: If you have Manhattanite friends
This is a huge pet peeve of mine as, believe it or not, we have the OPPOSITE problem.
We are constantly going out to the island for events. To ask them to come to Manhattan or (God forbid!!!) Brooklyn is too much to ask. I almost feel embarrassed to ask at this point, as I am sending people out of "their way". I remember the first get together we had after five years together was our engagement party in Manhattan and I know a lot of my DH's family in particular had issues with this.
I always joke with DH that our poor child will have nobody come to his/her birthdays, baptisms etc.... if we end up staying in Brooklyn for a few years.

Re: If you have Manhattanite friends
A few of my friends are in the city and unless its after work (I work in the city) I hardly see them b/c I don't want to come back in after working in the city during the week. It works out for us even if its every so often b/c they don't want to come out to me and I don't want to go back in for them.
