We got a 220 gallon delivery on December 20 and just got another one on Saturday. Basically, we have to fill the tank 1X a month in the winter.
Our house has 3 heating zones.
Main floor: We keep it on 66 during the day. On sunny days, we open the front door to warm things up a bit more. 68 degrees at night. If we are not home, we lower it to 64 degrees during the day.
Upstairs: Completely off during the day. I turn it up to 70 degrees at 5:30pm and lower it to 68 degrees at 9m.
Basement: DH's friend lives down there. He was keeping the heat on all the time (72 degrees ) but DH just got a programmable thermostat and programmed it to be 64 degrees during the day and 68 degrees at night.

I have heard this is dangerous to do in this kind of weather...to keep it around 65

Re: If you have OIL HEAT, how much oil do you think you are going through a day?
we had our last delivery in October, and are due for another one now (275 gallon tank - we went COD this season).
I think what saves us is our ventless gas fireplace. It puts out so much heat, that our heating system doesn't kick on as often.
Someone is usually home all day. Thermostat is generally set to 68 during the day (main floor), and 64 at night (upstairs). (2 story, 2000sqft colonial - set to 60 on whatever floor we're not on/not home)
