If you know you are going to be induced..
would you just ask for a c-section? You think the dr would do it?

I'll admit- I'm nosy (and you don't have to answer) but may I ask why?
CS is major surgery and not done unless medically necessary. This would definitely be up to your doctor, not your preferance I would think.

Just because I know its 50/50 that you will have to have a c section anyway when you are induced, after all that has been going on with me it would just be nice to know that x is happening at this day and this time and not have to worry about being in labor for 22 hours to end up with one anyway.
I know that sounds awful and selfish, it would just be nice to be sure of something during this pregnancy

Re: If you know you are going to be induced..
I was induced and was able to have her vaginally. BELIEVE me- even with a perfect c/s, the recovery is awfully painful when compared to a VB. You also don't get to be with DC right away because you need to be stitched up and go to recopvery whereas right after a VB you are usually aboe to nurse and bond right away.
C/S is also more stressful than a vaginal birth for the baby.
50/50 is way off if you ask me. I have 6 friends who were all induced and only 1 wound up with a c/s.

Re: If you know you are going to be induced..
I was induced TWICE and delivered naturally and easily. I would NOT want a C section because it is surgery and a longer recovery time. It's hard enough recovering naturally AND caring for a newborn

Re: If you know you are going to be induced..
I will be induced and I will not ask for a c-section. I was so upset to find out I would even be induced becasue I knew it increased my chances of a c-section. For me, I don't want a c-section because it has more risks, a longer recovery, you can't drive for 6 weeks, AND my hospital doesn't let you eat for 24 hours after I have GD and I cannot wait to give birth to have all the yummy things I have been craving. I also felt like an induction is spoiling my fantasy of what childbirth will be like and a c-section will total crash it for me. Of course, I know most deliveries don't go as expected, but I just want nature to take its course and see what happens.

Re: If you know you are going to be induced..
No, I would not ask for a c-section and they will not give me one either until after I have gone through the motions of the induction/labor. I am being induced in 2 weeks. First it was to be cervidil then pitocin, then break my membranes, however I am already progessing on my own at 36 weeks (started before hand) so all I'll have to do is go in for my last appt. Strip my membranes that monday and Tuesday go in for the pitocin.
You can ask for it's your right, however with no medical reason and or back ground of c-sections they will not give it to you so easily.

It's not 50/50 for a Vag vs. c-sec. It increases your chances 25% by getting induced according to the stats these days. It all depends on your bodies state once going in.

If I have to be induced, I will request a C section. I feel like you could spend 20 hours in labor and still wind up w/ an emergency C. may as well ask for it up front

Re: If you know you are going to be induced..
I was 3 days past my due date and my cervix was high, tight, and closed. The dr said given those factors that most likely an induction would not be successful. They hooked me up to a monitor and I was having contractions, but my cervix wasn't responding. I had seen my sister and aunt be induced and they went throught hours and hours of labor jusr to end up with c-sections. I didn't want that. I asked if we could just do a c-section and he said yes.

this is EXACTLY why I would ask for a section right away

Re: If you know you are going to be induced..
I have been induced with all of my children and with 2 of them I went vb and only 1 c-sec. I think the only reason why I had to have the c-sec is because with my 3rd I couldn't have the cervidil since his heart rate wasn't at it's strongest. However my ob wouldn't give me a c-sec unless it was medically nec.

Re: If you know you are going to be induced..
I had an induction and didn't need a c/s. I was already 3 cm dilated and 70% effaced, so I am sure that helped.
I don't know if your doctor would do a c/s if asked. It is major surgery and while safe, a vaginal delivery is safer. So he/she may not want to do it unless it's needed.

Re: If you know you are going to be induced..
I asked my doctor about it and he said absolutely not. Unless there is a health risk, they will not do a c-section without going through the steps of the induction.
I was induced at 37w5 days with 0 effacement or dilation and my induction took all of 11 hours from start to finish. I had an awesome experience. You have no idea how your body will respond, which is why many doctors won't automatically opt for a c-section.

Re: If you know you are going to be induced..
I don't think any doctor would go straight to a C-Section - and wouldn't you at least want to try to have the baby naturally?
I was induced - and after 12 hours of the Cervadil and not even a centimeter dialated I demanded a csection. I was also 12 days late at this point.
I knew there was a reason I wasn't dialated - and my son was 9lbs 14ozs. In my case the csection would have happened regardless of if I did the cervadil for another 12 hours. But, I think you should at least give it a shot. Recovery is sooooo much harder with a section.

no way!!
C-Sec is the least favorite thing to think about. I talk to everyday, hoping she will be headdown by this week's OB appt.

Re: If you know you are going to be induced..
I'm being induced on Thursday and I will try everything to deliver vaginally. To me, the thought of a c-section is major abdominal surgery. I can only hope the induction will be successful, despite knowing the risk of a c-section.

I am sorry this is not true, I had a c-section...dd was in the room when I was being stitched up, they were doing all the agpar tests, etc and I did have her with me in recovery, I nursed her 1 hour after she was born. She NEVER left my side

when I was induced, the plan was to NOT let me labor for too long if I was not progressing. My doctor and I decided that if my labor stalled, we would do the c and that is what happened. I think you can request that if your labor is not progressing after the induction, to go with the c-section

Re: If you know you are going to be induced..
With DS I was induced, he was six days past his due date. As the nurses said, my labor was textbook!
I would only request a c-section if my labor was not progressing or the baby was in distress.
ETA: I did have him vaginally

Re: If you know you are going to be induced..
I was induced and my doctor refused to even consider a c-section until I tried naturally. After 20 hours of labor I was begging for one and they still refused because the recovery is more difficult. Needless to say DD had a different plan in mind and refused to come out so I had to have a section. The recovery was difficult but I don't have anything to compare it with as she is my first child. I did get to see her immediatly and when I was getting stitched up DH was with her.
