If you make your own baby food - how many days in fridge ok?
I always go by 3-4 days - its ok in the fridge for 4 days then I toss it. So far that seems to be working for DD and worked for DS. It's always gone by then but, today is day 5 and I have some left - I was going to toss it but, my mom says it is still good - what do you think? It's pureed meat and peas and butternut squash (all together) if that matters. TIA!

I've always heard 3 days max - I would toss it. Especially if there is meat in it - but that's just my opinion!

www.stilltasty.com is a great resource for leftovers For a child, I would not give after 3 days, 4 days max, esp meats.

The jars usually say 2 days, I never kept it past 2 days and I would actually never have given it to my DD after 5 days. Gross. I won't even eat leftovers past a day or two so to give my DD food after 4-5 days seems long to me.

Re: If you make your own baby food - how many days in fridge ok?
I have read 48-72 hours. Honestly unless I froze something (once I defrosted I used immediately) I always used anything I made within 24-48 hours tops. For the most part the earth's best etc does say to use within 2-3 days of opening so I would think even if you made it yourself I wouldn't want to keep it longer. I tried to use everything within 24 hours that I didn't freeze - but 48 hours was the longest I would let it go.
Etd to add my mom wouldn't let me keep anything past 2 days b.c she said I would give the girls food poisoning.

Re: If you make your own baby food - how many days in fridge ok?
Thanks ladies! I was going to toss it anyway so I'm def. going to now. I'm surprised at those that say 24 hours. When I make meat balls or chicken or food for the family I will keep it 3-4 days easily. No one feeds their child food they made 3-4 days earlier (talking about non-purees here)?
Is the only thing you are worried about them getting sick? I guess we've been lucky then that no one in the house has ever had food poisoning! I think its totally different with a jar of bought food then food made from scratch fresh - so I don't compare the two at all. From the websites and what you ladies are saying I think I will make 3 days the rule from now on with purees but, what about regular food. Like if you make a big chicken or turkey or meatloaf - do you only use fresh for 1-2 days? I'm really surprised! I hope I haven't been poisoning my family My italian mother is laughing at me right now btw - she says she always keeps food for a WEEK

3 days but I usually put it into the freezer in portions after a day and just defrost as needed. that way i don't have to worry about it and don't let it go to waste! Also, I can make a much larger amount that way.

Re: If you make your own baby food - how many days in fridge ok?
This is why I freeze most of what i make. I will use it up till four days, MAX. After that, no. I make a week's worth of food at a time. I freeze half and keep half in the fridge. I make chicken mostly fresh, I never put it in the fridge after making it, I always put in the freezer. If it's in the fridge, I puree it as I use it.

My italian mother is laughing at me right now btw - she says she always keeps food for a WEEK
Must be an Italian thing bc my mom keeps food for over a week too and I am reminded how we "never got sick". DH and I say oh well, we are more aware of facts so we go by them. And the fact is 3-5 is the rule, with 5 days being max.
I do give my DD leftovers now that she is 2, I will go up to about 4 days max. To me, nothing is worth risking getting sick. JMO
