DH and I are looking at 2 side hall colonials on the market right now. In general I like the layout but the kitchen seems small to me. It's a U-shaped kitchen with an eat-in area.
If you own a side hall can you tell me if you've done any renovations to the layout? We thought about opening up the wall from the kitchen to the family room. Also would love ideas to make the kitchen a better layout.
Here are a few pictures of the kitchens in both houses:
House#1 Here you can see the kitchen through the family room wall:
House#2:
Both kitchens are essentially the same. All of the sidehalls in our area are the same exact floorplan. I haven't seen any of them set up any differently but I feel like there must be something we can do with it.

I have a small side hall colonial; stairs on right side of the house in the living room, dining room and kitchen on the left side of the house.
We recently remodeled and tore down the wall dividing the kitchen and dining room. I am so happy with the way it turned out, it makes me feel like I'm in a "big house" lol, even though I am not.
Here's a bad pic, but you can see how it's one room now
