If you own a snowblower...

On days like today do you keep it in the garage/shed and shovel your way to it in the morning. Or do you leave it out with a tarp over it and start it up and start blowing?

DH insist on leaving it in the shed. Than he has to shovel his way to get to it. About 15 feet. I told him last night to leave it out with a tarp over and just start it up and go. He told me no because it gets cold and wet? I told him I didn't think it had a soul.

Doesn't make sense to me buy hey I'm not the one making more work for myself.

So how do you it?

We just bought a snowblower, just waiting for it to arrive. DH said he plans on keeping it in the shed which is at the end of our property and then when it is suppose to snow put it in the garage a day or two before.

Are your garages attached to your house?

Re: If you own a snowblower...

We keep ours in the garage and luckily we have an entrance to the garage from our house. As soon as DH opens the garage he blows his way down the driveway. The only thing that sucks is our walk way to the front door is up a few steps so he shovels all that and its pretty long.. I normally try to help but the baby was having a rough morning.. We have a detached garage... it stays there. DH just walks through the snow to get to it.

Re: If you own a snowblower...

its usually in the shed (which dh then just walks through the snow and yanks it out) although last night he took it out of the shed and had it out in the back under the deck

Are your garages attached to your house?

Yes, but we are 3/4's of an acre and the shed is all the way in the back and our house is set back about 50ft. from the street. He told me he was going to keep it in the shed and I told him he was crazy for that.

Isn't the snowblower going to get "cold and wet" anyway? If we didn't have a garage, I would just keep it under an awning with a cover the night before a storm.

Re: If you own a snowblower...

I think my dad just walks to his shed to get it. The shovels are in the basement, so he can clear off the stairs, but I don't think she shovels all the way to the shed.

Re: If you own a snowblower...

Tarp it on the deck in the backyard near the gate. He does it late the night before. He actually locks it to the deck so no one can steal it (hello, Mr. Overreaction..)

Realize it took me 4 years of convincing to get him to do this. The first 3 years he trudged thru the snow to get to the shed to get it out. Keep on bugging him, hopefully he will get it. Chat Icon

It is in the garage which is like 2 feet from the house, so DH just walks in the snow to get it.

It's in our garage which is attached to the house BUT we have NO walkthrough from house to garage. DH walks out the front steps to the garage in the snow.

We kept it in the garage. I still had to shovel my way down the steps and to the garage though.

Re: If you own a snowblower...

it usually stays in the shed (way back of the property) but dh will put in in the garage the day/night before an expected snow storm, and he will use it. we have a very long driveway and cannot do without one.
