If you put your DC in a bed before they turned 2 please come in
Tyler has been jumping out of the crib - I'm going to try putting him in a sleepsack for nap today but if that doesn't work we'll be converting his crib to a bed tonight.
I will put a gate at his door.
What else do I need to know?
Did your child drop the naps once they moved to a bed? Did you give them a pillow and blanket at this point?

I didn't - Ryan was about 27 months when he did the jump a few times and we put him in a twin bed. If Colin jumps anytime soon he'll go in the bed I'm ordering as of next week.
I think you'll be fine - anxiety over it worse than the actual effort like most things with these kiddies.
And I don't think he'll drop the nap just because he's in the bed. I expected Ryan to do that but he napped better in the bed actually - maybe because the novelty of figuring out how to jump out of the crib wasn't there??
Let me know how it goes. Don't stress it

Re: If you put your DC in a bed before they turned 2 please come in
I just transitioned DS to a toddler bed this past week. We made a big deal about it being a "big boy bed" and I bought a toddler sized pillow. We practiced laying down on the big boy pillow and told him all about being a big boy and sleeping in his big boy bed. (He's 21 mo) Other than 1 night in the past week, he's stayed in bed and slept fine (STTN and naps) Only once did he get up in the MOTN and cried (I think he got scared)
We also put a gate on his door so he can't get out. It's been great!
We also put his bear and binkie to sleep once he's up. I literally pull a blanket over them so he can't get them. He makes a snoring noise and walks away. That has been a lifesaver b/c he's a bear and binkie junkie.
ETA: He didn't drop a nap at all - he still naps as usual.

I put my younger DD in well before she turned 2...I never put a gate at her door, but we live in a ranch, so stairs aren't a concern. I gave her a pillow and a blanket when she moved to a bed. She actually naps just the same in her bed as she did in the crib...she puts herself down most of the time for naps and bed.

Elizabeth jumped out of the crib before she turned 2 but I didn't switch her until after. I actually switched her right after her second birthday and then switched her back (since the crib converted it was relatively easy to do) until we bought a gate for her door.
And yes, I gave her a pillow and a blanket at that time. She kept up with the naps until very recently. I had no problem putting her down for naps in her bed.

Re: If you put your DC in a bed before they turned 2 please come in
We switched DS to a bed at 19 months. We started him on a mattress on the floor for the first two weeks. He had a pillow and blanket. We just got his furniture delivered, so now he is in a regular bed.
Honestly, he does great with it. The only thing was the bed is a bit high, so I had to get him a step stool. It's at the end of his bed rail and he uses it to get in and out by himself.
We didn't drop any naps (not sure why that would be related to the type of bed he is in).

Re: If you put your DC in a bed before they turned 2 please come in
I just tried putting him in a sleepsack for his nap and he jumped out with the sleepsack on. I laid on the floor with him till he fell asleep. I'm not sure if I'll convert the bed tonight - or just keep up with laying on the floor till he falls asleep since it's only a few minutes. Part of me thinks I should just take the plunge and convert it to a bed - part of me thinks I'm insane!

21 months and he did great! Some naps were difficult but for the most part he continued to nap. Yes, I gave him a pillow and blanket.
It will all work out! He prob sees jack in a bed and wants to be like his big bro.

We started lying on the floor to get DS to fall asleep, but after the first night, he pops up every 2 minutes to standing to make sure we're still lying there. I wish we hadn't started this.

Re: If you put your DC in a bed before they turned 2 please come in
Kaydyn started climbing out of her crib right before her 2nd birthday.
We transitioned to a toddler bed. She slept fine in it at night...never had a problem (except for when she had a stomach virus). Naps were hit and miss. Sometimes she would go down fine. Sometimes she would play around and get in and out of bed several times. She was only taking 1 nap at that point and in her crib she would sleep 2-3 hours and once we put her in the toddler bed she would sleep 1 1/2-2 hours. I really didn't mind. It was still a break.
Once we put her in the toddler bed we gave her a little toddler pillow and a little fleece blanket.

I was at my wits end last night so I put him in Jacks bed with him and said "Sleep here!" -- Jack goes "Mommy, NO! Put him in his crib, I don't want to sleep with him!"

Re: If you put your DC in a bed before they turned 2 please come in
DD#2 started climbing out legs first at around 18 months give or take. As long as I put her in a sleep sack she was fine. Then in early February when DD was 20 months she learned that she could raise up on her arms and then go head first out (luckily I had the monitor on and saw her and ran in just in time to catch her). The crib tent didn't fit her crib correctly so I put her in a toddler bed. She has been in it ever since.
She gave up naps around that time - but while that was partly the reason also her sister gave them up at the same time so she never wanted to go down. We never put up a gate b.c her room is right next door to ours and can hear her whenever she opens the door - but she does often wake 1 time at night still and she will come into our room when she wakes up and goes back down in our bed.
It wasn't ideal but it got better in time. I got a small toddler pillow and dressed her in warm feeted blanket type sleepers so she really didn't need a sleep sack or blanket. She doesn't like to use a blanket I still put on one her legs though when she falls asleep.

DD was moved to a twin bed at 20m and a double bed at 24m
Did your child drop the naps once they moved to a bed? no she did not, she is 3.5 and still takes naps! Did you give them a pillow and blanket at this point? yes she had a pillow and blankets plus her stuff animals in bed with her.

Re: If you put your DC in a bed before they turned 2 please come in
my babies are nightmares.
josh had 2 gates on top of each other since he climbed the first one...one morning he was hanging from the top gate. so no more gates. the one gate did not stop jessie at all. mine are escape artists.
jessie in on a crib mattress on my floor. i don't trust her in her room yet.
she takes a nap each day...i just say over and over again to get to bed. i lay in my bed and make believe i am asleep.
we are a hot mess over here
