If you REALLY want to keep puppy mills out of New York State...
There is a new bill being introduced in the NYS Assembly, Bill # 9612 which will eliminate the puppy mill problem in NY and pet stores that sell puppy mill pups. Yes, WE CAN keep them out of New York State!
Help us get this bill passed by joining us at Albany for Lobby Day- bus transport to Albany from LI will be arranged with details forthcoming- I KNOW I AM DEFINITELY ATTENDING THIS ONE!

Now THAT'S the right attitude!
So far the lobby date is scheduled for Monday May 5- I am waiting for time and location of charter bus pickup to Albany-
Anyone out there interested in going when I receive details?

Good thinking!! Maybe others could follow suit. Did you do this online? In the interest of keeping things simple, is there a form letter out there that can be used?

I think the HSUS puppy Mill page has a form letter. What you can do is go to NYS website & find the State Senator for your district.

If you want to wite a letter, you can cite this part of the bill:
"S 753-F. PROHIBITED SALE OF ANIMALS. 1. NO PERSON SHALL SELL, GIVE
33 AWAY OR TRANSFER DOGS OR CATS OR ITS PUPPIES OR KITTENS BORN OR BRED AT
34 ANY ANIMAL FACILITY THAT BREEDS OR MAINTAINS ANIMALS UNDER INHUMANE
35 CONDITIONS AND/OR BREEDS IN EXCESS THAT CAUSES HEALTH PROBLEMS FOR THE
36 FEMALE DOG OR CAT OR ITS PUPPIES OR KITTENS.
37 2. IT SHALL BE PROHIBITED TO PURCHASE OR ACCEPT ANIMALS FROM ANY
38 ANIMAL FACILITY AS DEFINED IN SECTION SEVEN HUNDRED FIFTY-TWO OF THIS
39 ARTICLE AND DESCRIBED IN SUBDIVISION ONE OF THIS SECTION, BY A CONSUMER,
40 CO-BREEDER, RETAIL PET STORE, RESEARCH OPERATION OR BROKER ACCEPTING
41 DOGS OR CATS FOR USE BY THEMSELVES OR TRANSFER TO A THIRD PARTY.
42 3. NOTHING IN THIS SECTION SHALL PRECLUDE ANY PEACE OR ANIMAL CONTROL
43 OFFICER WHO SHALL HAVE THE POWERS OF A PEACE OFFICER AS DEFINED IN
44 SECTION 2.10 OF THE CRIMINAL PROCEDURE LAW WITH RESPECT TO THIS SECTION
45 FROM ENFORCING THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION IF HE OR SHE SHALL RECEIVE
46 ORALLY OR IN WRITING A REPORT OF ANY INHUMANE CONDITIONS AT SUCH ANIMAL
47 FACILITY AS DEFINED IN SECTION SEVEN HUNDRED FIFTY-TWO OF THIS ARTICLE.
48 4. ANY ANIMAL FACILITY DETERMINED TO BE IN VIOLATION OF THIS SECTION
49 SHALL REQUIRE A STATEMENT SIGNED BY A VETERINARIAN THAT THE ANIMAL
50 FACILITY HAS ABIDED BY ALL FEDERAL, STATE, LOCAL LAWS OR REGULATIONS
51 THAT PERTAIN TO THE HUMANE TREATMENT OR CONDITIONS OF ANIMALS, IN ORDER
52 TO CONTINUE HOUSING ANIMALS IN SUCH FACILITY.
53 S 3. Subdivision 3 of section 405 of the agriculture and markets law,
54 as added by chapter 259 of the laws of 2000, is amended to read as
55 follows:
A. 9612--A 3
1 3. Any person conducting an inspection of {a pet dealer} AN ANIMAL
2 FACILITY or responding to a complaint concerning {a pet dealer} AN
3 ANIMAL FACILITY shall be specifically trained PURSUANT TO RULES AND
4 REGULATIONS PROMULGATED BY THE COMMISSIONER in the proper care of cats
5 and dogs and in the investigation and identification of cruelty to
6 animals. SUCH INVESTIGATION SHALL INCLUDE A STATEMENT SIGNED BY A
7 VETERINARIAN THAT THE ANIMAL FACILITY AS DEFINED IN SECTION SEVEN
8 HUNDRED FIFTY-TWO OF THE GENERAL BUSINESS LAW HAS ABIDED BY ALL FEDERAL,
9 STATE, LOCAL LAWS OR REGULATIONS THAT PERTAIN TO THE HUMANE TREATMENT OR
10 CONDITIONS OF ANIMALS AS FURTHER DEFINED BY SECTION SEVEN HUNDRED
11 FIFTY-TWO OF THE GENERAL BUSINESS LAW, IN ORDER TO CONTINUE HOUSING
12 ANIMALS IN SUCH FACILITY."

Anytime. I actually want to contact Ms. LaMarca...she lives in my neighborhood & I'd like to see if she needs any additional help, and if she has any materials that help explain this law on a lay-level.

I would be interested in going. I have to try to get the day off from work, this cause means alot to me, so yes let me know when you have more details.

If you sign up with HSUS, they send you periodic e-mails in which you can contact your representatives whenever an animal related bill or issue arises.
