If you recently did a kitchen renovation... please tell me
How many sq feet was it? What kind of features/finishes: granite counter tops? wood cabinets? Appliances: stainless steel? How much approx did it cost?
Just trying to get an idea, we are looking at a house that needs complete kitchen overhaul, and have no idea what it could end up costing.

we decided to hold off on granite for now but eventually the whole thing will have cost us about $18,000 for:
cherry cabinets from consumers granite countertop from consumers stainless steel appliances (fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher, hood vent) travertine tile floor
we have a small kitchen approx. 90 sq ft and we're doing almost all the work ourselves

Re: If you recently did a kitchen renovation... please tell me
We redid our kitchen 4 years ago with Ikea cabinets....all new cabinets, all new appliances (appliance sale at home depot with a coupon), new wood laminate flooring, and butcher block counter for under $3000!

Re: If you recently did a kitchen renovation... please tell me
Our kitchen is 222 sq/ft and I think it came in around $30k without appliances.
We have all wood construction cabinets that are cherry and uppers are 42". 70 sq/ft of counter top and we bought quartz. 40sq/ft of backsplash. Heated flooring system Handles (darn things are $$$ and we picked simple ones from Lowes). Porcelain flooring The only labor we paid for was the plumber and that $1500 to relocate water and gas lines and also drain and add a vent.
It sounds like a lot in total but when you break it down by each item we really didn't spend a lot for any one particular thing.

Re: If you recently did a kitchen renovation... please tell me
The estimates we have received for labor were from $15000 to $20000. This includes laying 500 feet of tile, gutting walls (a lot of them), removing vinyl from floor, 9 high hats, 2 pendant lights, dumpster, plumbing including gas, and molding.
Our cabinets should run no more than $8000, tiles $2000 and counter around $3000 (granite or silestone).
I have an estimate from HD which was the sames as Consumers except they were not wood. I actually have an appointment with Think Kitchen in Huntington next week to look at cabinets.
I am only buying 2 appliances but the ones I bought were from applicancesbyphone.com Their prices beat all stores (someone on this board recommended them). Actually PC Richards delivered my stove.
We actually have a small kitchen area but foyer and laundry are included.

Re: If you recently did a kitchen renovation... please tell me
If you look at my other post, we are in the middle of a total kitchen renovation. We bought the cabinets, granite countertops and almost ALL the appliances at Ikea, for $10k. We are installing it ourselves so there is no added cost.
With tile, and the oven, the total cost is about $12k...

Re: If you recently did a kitchen renovation... please tell me
I don't know how big our kitchen is but we spent 18k on cabinets 12k on appliances and then I would say another 3-4k on tile and backsplash...It's not a huge kitchen but not a small one either. We had our cabinets custom made by a vendor on here and couldn't be happier. We used Dynamic Kitchens. We priced out the mass stores and some other custom guys and am glad we went with him!
Forgot to add another 2k for granite

Re: If you recently did a kitchen renovation... please tell me
Ours is an eat in kitchen. I'm not positive about the footage but I think it's around 180-190.
We are in process and so far we have gutted the kitchen clean:
Dumped all of the cabinetry Stripped all the drywall and insulation Stripped the ceiling Pulled up the floor down to the beams knocked down a wall between kitchen and living room Installed a new header beam on the now missing wall Built a small wall box for our fridge Re-did all of the electric Installed high hats moved the back window moved the plumbing moved the gas line installed a new subfloor of plywood and cement board
The labor on this was free - my husband is an electrician and my best friend's husband does contracting work. We spent about $1000 on wire, parts, etc..
We have purchased and will be installing shortly:
New insulation and drywall for walls and ceiling
New all wood maple cabinets with cushion close doors, full glaze and full overlay including 7 upper cabinets, 6 lower cabinets (plus a sink base and a pull out spice cabinet) and an appliance garage. Corner cabinets have Super Susan and all lower cabinets have top drawer - 1 has full chest of drawers.
Quartz countertops for kitchen proper
Granite slab for separate peninsula (this granite was a gift so no cost)
Porcelain tile with picture frame inset
Microwave hood
Total cost for these new materials was about $13,000.
We did not buy a new fridge or stove or dishwasher since I bought those 5 years ago with the house.
With all the little extra stuff that we are still buying here and there - handles, bar stools, decorative accents, the total renovation cost should land somewhere around $15,000

Re: If you recently did a kitchen renovation... please tell me
We are in the process of doing this now. We decided to have country kitchen so no formal dining room. It's about 310sq ft. We got:
Knocked down wall between kitchen and dining room Custom made 36in cherry cabinets with no slam hinges Custom made island Granite for counter and island GE profile Stainless steel appliances (french door fridge, dishwasher, double wall oven, cooktop, and microwave) ceramic tile floor backsplash redid and upgraded electric high hats new insulation converted to gas
My husband, dad and a friend have been doing a majority of the work so we did not have to pay much for labor. So far we have spent about $25,000

Re: If you recently did a kitchen renovation... please tell me
We gut the entire kitchen, put in IKEA cabinets, silestone counter tops and backsplash, all new stainless steel appliances from Sears, and a snap/lock laminate floor from Home Depot. DH installed it all himself except for appliances that Sears installed. The WHOLE THING cost us $10k.

Re: If you recently did a kitchen renovation... please tell me
We gutted the kitchen ourselves - We had all new plumbing and electric installed
My brother in law's guys installed our laminate flooring
We got our cabinets from Below Wholesale Cabinets (Solid Wood Cherry in Nutmeg finish with black glaze) - DO not use thiat company
We got Black Galaxy granite from K and K in Bethpage - We never have to seal the granite. They were excellent to deal with
We got our tile back splash from Prada Tile in Levittown - Ask for Joe or LOU. Lou is the owner. Tell him Scott his car detailer sent you. He will take care of you.
We got our Sink and Faucet from efaucets.com - Very affordable. I got an 18 gauge Stainless steel Farm sink - with the grate, soap dispenser and faucet for $550 shipped.
Appliances we got from Jays appliances in Levittown - We spent $4400 for Samsung Stainless with a french door frig.
We had JLD Construction install the cabinets, sink, and back splash.
We installed Cabinet lights in the glass cabinets (we have 3) and we have lights under the cabinets too
ALL together we spent around $20k

Re: If you recently did a kitchen renovation... please tell me
we did a lot ourselves and with the help of a contractor friend. we shopped around a bit. not including labor or delivery fees or anything, we spent: for stainless and clean steel appliances at home depot, about $2500 for dishwasher, fridge and stove
granite counters we spent $1900 (great deal- paid in cash)
tiles for floor and backspash, paint, grout, lighting fixtures, garbage disposal, stainless hood, etc. about $3000, maybe a little more
we refinished and painted our cabinets so we did not have to purchase new ones.
