If you retired the infant carrier early....
For those of you who stopped using the infant carrier early on, where did you put your DC when you went food shopping?
My son is 3 months and weighs 17 lbs. My mom, who watches him FT, couldn't lift the carrier with him in it, so we got her a convertible car seat. She has a regular stroller for him, but how can she go food shopping with him?
He's not sitting up on his own yet, so he can't sit in the front of the shopping cart.
What do other parents do who are in the same situation?

Nah, she's afraid of hurting her back carrying him that way. He's heavy!
I use the sling when I'm doing laundry sometimes. When he was smaller, he'd fall asleep in it. Ahh the good old days...

Peapod!
My sister uses Peapod. She loves the convenience of it (and she says she spends less!).

How did she food shop with him in the carrier? I could never get the carrier in the cart in a way that it was safe and secure. The only way would be to bring the stroller and just buy what fits in the basket below it, I think.

Re: If you retired the infant carrier early....
I tried not to do heavy shopping with him. If I went in to get a few things, I put them in the basket of the stroller or carried a basket on my arm.
I didn't really want to try to do the stroller/cart combination - I was more afraid of the trip from the store to the car with a full basket and the stroller.

That's the thing...she didn't take him food shopping when he was in the carrier. She didn't leave the house. I think she was overwhelmed with taking him out in the beginning.

Left DD home, that's what I did.
and when I did take her shopping, I always kept her in her carriage and just used canvas bags to carry whatever stuff that could not fit in the basket under the carriage.

I just didn't go alone. Or you could get one of those floppy things. In about a half a month he should be a bit more upright. I used the floppy straps to sit him up really well and I just kept my hands on him adjusting him the whole time. It will get better in a month. It's amazing the difference a month makes.

Ugh, this phase was such a nightmare!! And my DS didn't sit up on his own until 7 months I think next time around I will get one of those moses basket type things that will fit in the seat that he could lay in.

Yup...we got no further than 3 months with that thing and then it was done...usually if I had to go food shopping I did it late at night or on the weekends when DH could watch him. If we went together one pushed the stroller. It was a huge pain...I was so happy when he started sitting up...made things easier.
I can't tell you how much my stroller has held on our shopping trips

Re: If you retired the infant carrier early....
Thanks everyone. I guess my mom will have to make small purchases for now, until my DS can sit up in the cart. I can't see her pushing a stroller and dragging a cart behind her!
She said when we were all little, she went food shopping once a week, at night. We were left home with my dad, and it was the one hour a week she had to herself.
