If you use a crate, when do your dogs get put in it?

Do you leave them there all day, while at work, and/or at night? When I was crate training it was day and night only allowed out when I was home and up.

But, now that they are house broken I let them roam free, but I think I need to start re-crating.

Whenever we leave the house and at night and this is only for our 9 week old puppy....
our oldest dog was never crate trained and our middle dog stopped using the crate a few months ago with no probs

Whenever we leave the house. We come home at lunch to let her out for a little bit and then she goes back when we have to go back to the office. She's free to play in the kitchen at night.

Bella only goes in the crate whenever we are not home. Sometimes we leave her out if we are only gone for a short time, but then she tends to bark at everything she hears when she isn't in the crate. I would like to get rid of the crate all together, but I think she likes the security when we aren't home.

She is gated off in the kitchen during the day with access to her crate and bed. At night we crate her.

While we are out she actually goes to sleep in the crate- I peeked in the window the other day to see what she was up to.

We used to put her in when we went to work...she sleeps with us at night.
Now, it just sort of sits in the spare room....empty!
