If you used crinone
On Friday I have my discharge appointment from my RE. I'm a nervous wreck. Anyways. My last visit at the RE I saw the NP and we discussed coming off crinone and it will be decided at this visit when to come off. She said likely 10 week. Is this too soon? I plan to ask the doctor the risk/ benefit or the risk/ benefit of staying on longer. Is 10 weeks average?

Once the placenta is functioning, you don't need to supplement anymore. Initially hormones are produced by the ovaries, and then the placenta. Placenta starts functioning around 8-9 weeks and fully takes over around 12. There is no risk to supplementing for longer if it makes you feel better

Re: If you used crinone
10 weeks is pretty standard. Honestly, I was told by my RE that unless your progesterone levels are low, there is no medical reason to take progesterone after an IVF cycle, but REs recommend it since it will not do any harm. I was off at 10 weeks. I actually stopped at 9w6d when I ran out and figured buying a whole new supply for 1 day wasn't worth it. As PP said the placenta takes over and the progesterone suppositories really serves no function after 10 weeks. No reason to stay on passed that! good luck!

Re: If you used crinone
My first pg I was on p4 until 10 weeks but begged to stay on until 11. They allowed me. My current clinic has you come off sups at 10 weeks. I don't think I am going to ask to stay on longer. They did agree to check me again if I felt more comfortable, but I don't think i will push it. I have to try to trust them. These were both FETs.

But for a FET, you would absolutely need the p4.

Re: If you used crinone
I stayed on it until 12 weeks for peace of mind, but I had extra to spare. My RE told me to stop at 8 weeks and my OB said to stop at 10 weeks.

My RE originally said 10 weeks but since my progesterone dropped at like 7 weeks I had to go back on PIO as well as crinone so she's having me stay on it til I'm 12 weeks to be safe.

Thanks everyone. I will ask if they can possibly do blood work to see where my progesterone is then before giving me a time line. I haven't had blood work since I was like 18dpo just to make sure my hcg was over 1500. I'll have enough to get me just to 9 weeks so I'll have to order another box anyway and and although it's highly irritating and uncomfortable I wouldn't mind staying until 12 if need be. Thanks all!!

I was only on it for 8 weeks. I read a lot of literature on this and once the placenta takes over (6 weeks), it's fine to come off of it.

Also even if they did bloodwork crinone doesn't always show up in the blood because it works locally, so bloodwork is not always reassuring when just on crinone
