If you were going to send something to a friend who 's father just died yesterday. UPDATED
and you could not make the wake this weekend (due to babysitting issues and travel issues) would you...
send flowers? an edible arrangement? a card only? a mass card (they are Catholic)
I am leaning towards an edible arrangement, but the wake is 30 minutes from her house. The wake is Sat & Sun afternoon and evening. I do not have a sitter and no one in our family can watch DD. Bringing my 21 month old to a wake is NOT an option. WWYD?
TIA!

I voted for sending the edible arrangement to the house. I would also send a card in the mail.

an edible arrangement if you're really close. A card is probably fine.

I would send flowers to the funeral home or maybe a deli or bagel platter to the house - something with more staying power then cut fruit.

I agree, when my SIL's father passed away they got so many edible arrangements and fruit baskets that they were giving them out to their neighbors b/c they couldn't possibly eat it all.
But they loved the deli platter that came. They were able to eat between viewings and not have to think about stopping for food or anything.

Re: If you were going to send something to a friend who 's father just died yesterday
Thanks everyone!
DH wanted to send flowers & a card, so that is what we did. I was so upset that he handled everything and ordered a beautiful arrangement.
I am so bummed that I could not go today. The wake was on Long Island and I am almost 2 hours away from where it was. DH's finals for school are due at midnight tonight, Grace is not feeling well and no one could watch her. My MIL said If I dropped her at her house (on LI) she would watch her for two ours so I could go tonight by myself. But I did not want to drive in this torrential rain for two hours there and back w/Grace and risk it, plus MIL was not thrilled when I told her Grace has a cold.
I called my friend and she totally understood, but I still feel horrible.
Thanks again for all the advice.

i would send a card (more personal, not a mass card) and an edible arrangement

UPDATE: They delivered them today. I am calling tomorrow to complain. They were supposed to be delivered Saturday.
What do you all think? Do I have a leg to stand on?
