If you were not close to your grandparents, did it really hurt you?
My inlaws are different types of grandparents from the norm. My FIL is very open about the fact that he will never love his grandkids as much as his own kids. okay, fine.
My mil, I don't know what here deal is. She always emails me and says thanks for the pictures...but it stops there.
They both are not fans of speaking English. So unless Leo, who is really never home, starts teaching Josh some spanish...if Josh is every around his grandparents, he won't know what they are saying.
I think they would ask him questions in English, but speak in Spanish when not directly talking to him. That's what they do with me atleast

I have never met my dad's father, he is actually my only living grandparent now and I even have a medical condition that is from him/his line and we would never contact him.
Honestly, I had such awesome grandparents from my mom's side that I never missed him at all.

I don't think it hurt me, because I didn't realize what I was missing. I had all the love I needed from the people who were in my life. And there was no bad blood or anything, all of my grandparents had passed away by the time I was 8. And the last one livivng lived in Italy so I only saw him maybe once and year and he didn't speak English.

That's just sad. They're the ones missing out. Josh has you, DH and your family. I'm sure you'll make up for their slack times a thousand. How could anyone NOT want to be close to that adorable baby?! Like I said, Josh we'll be fine. They'll have their regrets and have to live with it.

Re: If you were not close to your grandparents, did it really hurt you?
I actually had a somewhat similar experience growing up. I say somewhat because one of my grandmothers only spoke Spanish. She never learned to speak English and unfortunately, I never learned to speak Spanish. So we never had a conversation that didn't involve someone else translating. Needless to say, we weren't close and I didn't know her very well. She passed about 10 years.
So to answer your question....did it hurt me...not really...but do I wish it were different....I'd be lying if I said no.

Re: If you were not close to your grandparents, did it really hurt you?
It sounds like Josh will still have them in his life, but just not to the extent you wish they could be involved. Growing up, my Mom's parents were much closer to us than my Dad's parents (Mom) I felt. I think it bothered me a bit growing up, but now as an adult and having her as my only living grandma, it's all the same to me
