If you were offered a free crib
but it had drop sides, would you take it?
I grew up with them. They have been around a million years (not literally I know). I love the design of the crib. They are 'not safe' anymore.

No, I am way too paranoid and scared. Even if the drop sides aren't used they can still collapse.

Re: If you were offered a free crib
I wouldn't. There have been sooo many recalls changes over the years, not worth the risk to me.

Re: If you were offered a free crib
Well, honestly if I didn't know about this site I prob wouldn't know of the dangers and just use it. Now after reading all the posts and dangers/info about them I wouldn't take it just b/c I'd be so paranoid. Peice of mind so I could sleep at night and not worry.

Re: If you were offered a free crib
Butting in here and correct me if I'm wrong. Since it was recalled, you could contact the manufacturer and they send you a kit where the crib is changed from a drop down to a stationary side.
So if that's the deal, I would take it.

This is a great idea, otherwise I would be too nervous to take it honestly.

Re: If you were offered a free crib
Nope. Like someone else said in another post, babies used to ride in the car in moses baskets, doesn't mean I'm going to use one of those in the car in place of an infant car seat.

Re: If you were offered a free crib
I received a free crib from a family friend that was dropside. It was a very well made expensive one and I just couldnt see how any of the issues of the recall would occur with this model. To be honest though, I will not use it with my next. I am so short and putting it up and down all the time made noise and woke the baby up! I felt it more of a hassel than anything!

Re: If you were offered a free crib
Absolutely not. They didn't ban them for any old reason.
You don't want to EVER regret saving a few bucks and having something that everyone was warned about, God forbid, happen.

Nope.
So many stores sell cribs at a reasonable price now, I wouldn't risk it.

nope. From what i read you should never take a hand-me down crib bc of safety reasons.

Re: If you were offered a free crib
actually someone brought me one that was hardly used and i debated on using it as an extra at one of the grandparents houses... but I ended up deciding not. I would rather be safe than sorry

Re: If you were offered a free crib
I actually would. Like someone else said, any of those that were recalled but had the kit to fix it I def would. I have a white crib that Im going to try and sell on craiglist that I have the full kit included. I would def be putting DD in it, but I want dark wood now

Re: If you were offered a free crib
Nope I wouldn't take a free crib or a used crib period. Baby bargains really made a point if this - you don't know if it was put together properly or missing pieces. There are plenty of inexpensive cribs out there

Re: If you were offered a free crib
I definitely wouldn't. A good friend of mine (you've probably seen her on the news / in the papers) lost her child because of the dropside crib. She was the one who pushed to get the dropside cribs banned.

Re: If you were offered a free crib
No, I didn't like them when we were looking for cribs before my first son was born because they seemed too flimsy. That was before the ban.

No..
They were banned for a reason & I would want to purchase a convertible set that can be used from birth-teen years.
