If you were relocating out of New York . .. (Updated)

....what would your "must do" NYC and LI things to do?

I have lived in NYC (and LI for 6 years) my whole life - I even went away to school in NY

But we are moving and I want to do stuff this summer with my three kids that I have always taken for granted and can't just do any more on a random weekend! Chat Icon

Some on my list:
-eat a lot of pizza
-eat a lot of bagels
-hopefully more than one MET game at CitiField
-go to the hamptons (parents have had a co-op my whole life)
-trip to the city walk around
-go to LI aquarium (my membership expires next month)
- my zoo membership ended last month so no more zoos bec I refuse to pay the insane walk up prices - ESP the Bronx zoo!

What would be on your bucket list for NYC (I currently live in Queens) and Long Island

We might be moving before summer's end too and although I lived in AZ during my 20s, I've been a LIer most of my life.

I agree with your entire list, I would add trips to the beach and wineries. And eat lots of seafood! (I guess that depends on where you're moving though - if we leave, we're heading back to land-locked AZ where there is no good seafood).

We are going to Florida - so I am exciting for no snow - beaches all year round instead of 3 months and seafood plentiful still! But I still plan on doing both up here still!

-Brooklyn bridge is a good one!
- Broadway show and american girl for my DD's 7th bday in august is in the work!
-ooh! I don't think I've ever taken them to FAO Swartz! - good one!

Re: If you were relocating out of New York . .. (Updated)

My list was:

Go to a baseball game
Hit up the bridges
Catch a show
BAGLES!
LIRR & MTA with AJ
walk downtown (WFC)
LOTS of pictures with AJ in as many places as I could.

I still miss the food.

ETA: and come back to visit in a year! LOL
It took us a few years (3) to come back but we did. And we're going back next year (I came back by myself for a weekend but next time the family is coming)

You'd be surprised how many people dream of visiting NYC. With friends and family there its not a 'dream' for us just a 'when can we make it' thing. NYC is extraordinarily expensive for a tourist. But with connections its really very simple to visit.

Oh I am already planning a trip back to NY during christmas - the kids have off 17 days down there - so i figured I'd do a week down there and leave the day after christmas for a week up here! I need to do the city in NYC during christmas! Funny to plan a trip back when we haven't even left! HAHA

Go upstate! Bear Mountain isn't too far.

Hit up a harbor town (port jeff, northport) and go to an old fashioned ice cream shoppe.

Go to the Unisphere!!!

Take the PJ ferry to Connecticut (not an easy one from queens)

Visit a lighthouse! Montauk or Fire Island!!!

We are in the same boat. Our bucket list includes lots of beach time, fire island, strolling through Hamptons, lots of restaurants, wineries (just DH and I), going all the way to the east end of the north fork and a stay in Montauk. I'd like to add in shelter island too but need to do more research.

We aren't from here originally and we are trading ocean for lakes so our priority is to soak it all up while we can.

We did do Central Park all day with the kids last weekend (zoo, rock climbing, ice cream, street magician, park with pyramids, etc) and we'll hit up the Museum of Natural History a couple more times since we love it. Anything else in the city can wait til we visit when kids are older.

Brooklyn Bridge
Central Park
Bike or walk on the esplanade by Hudson River. Stop in PS 25 to play mini golf, or rent bikes to ride along
Go to Governors Island and bike the way around, going to minigolf there as well
Staten Island Ferry
Museum of Natural History
Mets game
Going to the Top of the Rock to see the entire city and Empire State Building from up there
Maybe a horse carriage or a bike carriage... We did the last one and was lots of fun for my DS
Chinatown and going for dinner to Little Italy and walk your way around to find a good gelato
