Do they have "movie time" ?
My DD goes 4 hrs a day, 5 days a week.
They let them watch a movie every day . When I first found out I wasn't happy about it , but since I don't let DD watch much TV at home I got used to the idea and am ok with it. But today I found out that they let kids bring movies from home, there was a little boy who brought a Batman movie, not really something I would let DD watch even though I know it's a G movie. I asked the teacher and she said they let them watch movies as long as they are rated G. I told her there are some G movies I do not let my DD watch, just bc a movie is rated G it doesn't necessarily mean that it's suitable for a 3-4yo (IMO)
Just wondering if other parents have kids in prek where they let them watch a movie every day and how do you feel about it?

I think that's insane personally. You don't pay them to have your kids watch an hour and a half of TV a day.

This is how my DH feels about it, I did too , but for some reason I was the only parent in the class of 22 kids who was not happy with the idea (most parents looked at me like I had 10 heads when I expressed my concern) so I shut up and didn't say anything. They have 2 prek4 classes and they both do the movie time.... I just don't get it , since when do they let kids watch movies at school ? I mean if it's a 15 -30 min show I would be ok with it (I think) but a movie? no.

My DD private pre-k does not have "bring your own movie in" movie time. I wld be concerned also. Like the OP said your not paying the school to watch 2hr movie..you can do that at home and its free!
Do the children watch movies everyday? are there options for kids that dont watch?

My DD goes to Catholic school (~6.5 hrs - 3 times a week) and her day is busy with school stuff...def no movies!

I cannot believe administration allows that!

Ditto! The whole point of Pre-K is to prepare them academically for Kindergarten, so I would not be happy if 90 minutes of each day was devoted to movies! DD also goes to a Catholic school and only goes 2.5 hours as it is!

Is it during lunch or snack?

My DC goes to school 4 full days and eats lunch there (some of the 1/2 day kids do too) and they have the option of watching part of a movie or show during that time (they can play too).

Last year, DC went part time 3 days a week and ate lunch there as well and it was the same deal. Never really thought much of it.

I would be livid! What kind of school allows TV time EVERY day? That is totally unacceptable! You need to see the principal T!! Honestly though, with all the issues you've had with that school, have you considered another school for Becky? Its only pre-K...I would even pull her out of there all together.

Agree. DD goes to Pre-K FT in Public school and there is no movie time. There is story time, circle time and class trip time. I would be LIVID and say something. You do not pay for your kid to watch movies. Sorry thats b.s.

That is ridiculous!! You can watch movies at home for FREE. I would pull my child from a school that watches a movie everyday. Once a week MAYBE.

If she's only there 4 hrs a day, why can't they find something to teach/ do w/ the kids during that time? My mom taught pre-k at a Catholic school for 25+ years and wasn't showing movies (she was rarely allowed to show any movies/ shows and needed advance permission to do so).

This is how I feel and I would really consider moving her. Maybe start her in a new school in January. I get the feeling that you aren't crazy about the school over all.

The only time I could see this being acceptable is on a rain day in lieu of an outdoor recess.

They should not be watching movies in pre-school outside of an educational one.

That's crazy....I would not like that at all...occasionally (like a few/mth would still even bother me, but I would not be as annoyed). Not to mention batman is not really a great choice...my DS would freak out.
IMO, I am paying them to educate and play with my kids...not sit them in front of a movie...they can do that at home.

I know crazy right?! DH and I were just talking about the same thing. Honestly, we can't afford another school , they gave us a break on a tuition at this school ,I mean a pretty good discount, that's why we decided to send her there to begin with (with me being pregnant at that time it made sense for her and us to go with a private school, 4 hrs a day VS 2 hrs a day at UPK , so I could go to drs when I needed to or rest ) But with all the issues we have had with them we are fed up and seriously considering pulling her out OR try and get her into an UPK next semester if we can . The only thing with pulling her out is that we feel bad for DD, she does love her teacher and the school and all her friends, obviously she doesn't know/realize that there are any issues .
So it's so hard to decide what to do

I find that strange. While my son only goes 2.5 hours most days (one day he goes 5hours), I wouldn't want a school that does that. He has never watched a show at school other than maybe a video on some kind of safety or similar. What is the purpose of a show everyday? What is their reasoning and how much of the show do they let them watch? I'd question. My opinion is preschool is to introduce to real school and for socialization. TV does neither. (and I am not one who is against tv at home and my kids watch batman and other type shows - so I am not an anti-tv mom at all).

Wow I never heard of such a thing. My DS did Catholic pre-K (3 full days a wk) and I think maybe TWO times the whole school year they watched something... and those times it was an educational film about something they were learning about in class, not a regular movie.

Completely, completely unacceptable.

Yeah, I agree with everyone else - this sounds NUTS to me! I'd be livid. They would definitely be hearing from me Chat Icon Chat Icon I'm not paying $$$ for you to stick my kid in front of the TV! Chat Icon

DS goes to a private catholic preschool - went last year and is now in pre-k this year. They have NEVER watched a movie or TV even once in the two years!
