If your baby was a skinny minnie at nine months....
DD had her nine month apt and she is borderline 5th percentile for her weight - everything else is fine - lenght and head circumference are 75th. She only weighs 15 lbs 12 oz. Ped gave me 3rd degree about what and how much she ate. Truth is she is in daycare or with grandmas most of time, so while I make sure she somehow gets 30+ oz of milk + 3 meals a day on the weekends, and Daycare seems to do a good job, I worry about when she is with others. THey always tell me that she won't eat, or refuses a bottle etc. I know she can be fussy, but I usually find a way around it and I guess Daycare can too, b/c they do tell me the few times she refused to eat, but its very rare from them.
Anyway she had a stomache virus last month followed by an ear infection for which she was on antibiotics which continued to wreak havoc with her tummy so she wouldn't eat. So I think thats why she didn't gain that much weight. Also she has been cruising - really - since she turned 6 months (to the day!) so she is very active and burns a lot of calleries.
Now she has another ear infection and is on the same antibiotic that is hurting her apetite again. She gets sick a lot at daycare so we rely on others to watch her so I can work. I just don't know what to do -
I just want to quit my job and stay home with her to make sure she eats, but thats not an option. Any btdt moms with tiny 9 moth olds?
thanks...

Re: If your baby was a skinny minnie at nine months....
I don't recall Ella's 9 months stats, but at 1yr she was only 17lbs. Now at 2.5, she's 24-25lbs. Her brother was over 17lbs at 6 months - he's going to pass her up in no time.
It doesn't worry me at all. She's healthy, smart and thriving. She's just a stringbean!

My son didnt hit 15 lbs till like 11 months. No worries. I think every dr. is different. Noah has always been between the 1st and 5th percentile for weight. So the Dr. said since he is consistently at that level, its not like he is having huge losses or anything and its just " him". He doesnt eat much but I have tired a lot of things and I cannot get him to eat more, so we just watch him. Dont make yourself nuts over it

Both my Ds and DD are skinny and I am over it at this point. They eat but are not big eaters. I try to think of it as a blessing if they can continue not eat out of boredom etc. They eat when they are hungry. They are both in the 5th or less %. You know what is best for your DD.

Re: If your baby was a skinny minnie at nine months....
DD is 16months and only 20 lbs. She weighs close to DH's cousins son who is 7 months old! She is in the 10th percentile. My Dr didn't really get too concerned. He did mention that if she continues to go down in the percentiles then he would be concerned. So we shall see what she weighs in a couple of months.
Her problem? She eats like a bird! SHe loves to eat, but not a lot at once. A couple of bites here, a few there. It is very frustrating, but I just think she is going to be a petite little girl.

i used to spend so much time worrying about my sons weight. now i dont bother. if at this age they are happy, healthy and thriving, there is no reason to be concerned. She will eat what she needs to eat. You would know if something was wrong.

Re: If your baby was a skinny minnie at nine months....
IMO, She is going to eat when she is hungry. I was small when I was born and really skinny growing up. My mom used to stress so much. She came to the conclusion I would eat when I am hungry and I did. I always remember this when I get concerned about Gavin and him eating. Gavin is 9 months and 17lbs and he is a boy. He is tall (27 inches) and very active. Honestly, I wouldn't stress. Do you like your ped?
I think we talked in the past about PT work where I work. Let me know if you are still interested.

Re: If your baby was a skinny minnie at nine months....
dd was always tiny when she was little...they drove us nuts with bringing her in for weight checks and second guessing us on everything...they even suggested we wake her every few hras to feed her at night (um, no....since it made sense that it was a bad habbit to start...) - well, fast forward to 2 yrs old and she is normal weight....she neevr lost weight just gained slower than eevryone else....so now the ped admits, i "guess she was fine all along"...unless there is cause to worry, don't - if she is growing and doing ok don't let anyone stress you!

Thanks everyone - that makes me feel better that dd is not the only string bean! She is at Daycare today, so we'll see how she does...

Also, as one of the other posters said, this has a lot to do with genetics. My husband and i were both TWIGS as babies and children. Our son is really skinny and he weighs exactly what we weighed at his age. He is fussy with eating. I found that once I stopped forcing him he started eating more. Try not to stress it.

Re: If your baby was a skinny minnie at nine months....
both of my kids have been in the 5th percentile since they were 9 months old...both kids are tiny DD is 3 years old and only 27lbs DS is 13 months and only 17.5 lbs the dr isnt concerned, as long as they dont loose weight and are eating. my kids are also active and also burn off alot of caleries. they always seem to loose weight when they are sick so dont worry, your DC will get back to normal soon with her weight. i worry sometimes and at every visit my dr tells me the same thing that they are just tiny...as long as they are happy and heathly thats what matters. the dr also said being small is genetic.

my ds has eating issues so we suppliment with pediasure. i'm not sure if 9 months is too young for it but you can ask your ped.
