If your baby was EBF for 4-6 months, then you started supplementing with formula...
I know I have a ton of these supplementing questions, but i'm so nervous to start supplementing DD on formula. I know i'm probably being silly but I just love that she gets only breastmilk from me now.
My freezer stash is down to ZERO and i'm going away overnight at the end of Jan so unless I can pump enough BM this month to last for 2 days, she's going to have to be supplemented with formula. Plus i'm pumping just enough each day at work for what she needs the next day... barely.
Ok so if you started supplementing with formula between 4 and 6 months, did you mix 1/2 BM and 1/2 formula? Or did you just introduce the formula bottle all at once? How did they react?

Re: If your baby was EBF for 4-6 months, then you started supplementing with formula...
I introduced DD at 9 months to formula. She gets 4oz bottles, so I started with 3oz BM and 1oz formula. Did that for 2 days, then made is half and half for 2 days, then 3oz formula, 1 oz BM for 2 days. Then straight formula.
It was the hardest thing I have had to do yet, but DD is doing fine with it. She does spit up now which she hasn't done in months, but I know she will be OK. And your DD will, too!!

If I remember correctly, I did mix the formula with the BM...started with just a few ounces of each, so that I knew she'd finish the bottle.
Thankfully, DD was fine on the only formula brand we ever tried on her. We couldn't notice any difference whatsoever.
Good luck!

Re: If your baby was EBF for 4-6 months, then you started supplementing with formula...
Ann was taking 4oz of pumped BM when I first introduced formula. I started with 1oz formula/3oz breastmilk and took it from there.
I'd have to search on here to find out exactly when I started but I'd definitely say it was around 4 months. I know I had a decent stash and pumping at work went very well for a while when I went back.
DH just made fun of me because I have a lone frozen bag of breastmilk in the freezer that needs to be used (before it's no good!!) but I just can't bring myself to defrost the LAST one

Re: If your baby was EBF for 4-6 months, then you started supplementing with formula...
I didn't really mix the BM and formula but instead provided either BM or formula for a feeding. So on the first day I introduced one bottle of formula into the schedule a few days later one more bottle, etc. I will not do this for my second baby because during the transition my DD number 1 got really constipated for days from the formula...at the time I had no idea that I should mix it together.

Great, thanks for the advice! I think maybe next week when she turns 5 months I will start mixing formula and BM to get her used it. I'm still planning on having her mostly BF or taking BM from a bottle but supplementing with formula (maybe 1 bottle/day) will make it much easier for me.

I ended up doing the exact thing. Initially I didn't know to mix it and I gave dd a whole 5oz of straight formula and she threw it all up. So, gradually mix it.
