If your child ever got the flu shot...

did he/she have a reaction to it? If so, how bad were the symptoms? And how many days after the shot did they show up?

My doctor said there would be no reaction, but I have heard from many people that after getting the flu shot, their child ended up getting sick with flu-like symptoms. So I sit and wait..

Re: If your child ever got the flu shot...

I might be the odd one out, but I will never give my children the flu shot again. This year the ped talked me into giving it to my 2 1/2 year old becuase she goes to daycare 2 days a week and I have a 3.5 month old baby at home. About 2 weeks after the second shot she is currently sicker then she has ever been. She has had a fever around 101-102 for 5 days now. The ped said it is a virus going around and we have to wait it out. I know it could be totally unrelated and many people will read this and think I am crazy, but I can not help but feel the 2 things might be related, becuase I know my daughter and she has gotten sick in the past but this is practically like the flu.....JMO

DD had her shot on Wed. On Friday she started with the sniffles and sneezing. She was coughing and had a runny nose on Saturday. We took it easy all weekend and she seemed fine by Sunday night. I'm not sure if it's related.

If they did that was weird because its a dead virus, Julia, DH and myself get the shot every year and we haven't had any reactions to it. The only thing DH and I get is a sore arm, which is normal.

My DS has gotten 2 and he had no reaction the first time but after like a week and a half after he got his second one he came down with a cold. But i'm not 100% sure it was a reaction to a flu shot because we went to a Halloween party where there was this really sick kid that was coughing. I still don't understand why the boy's mother brought her child to a party with a very sick son.

Re: If your child ever got the flu shot...

http://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/keyfacts.htm

Vaccine Side Effects (What to Expect)

Different side effects can be associated with the flu shot and LAIV.

The flu shot: The viruses in the flu shot are killed (inactivated), so you cannot get the flu from a flu shot. Some minor side effects that could occur are

* Soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given
* Fever (low grade)
* Aches

If these problems occur, they begin soon after the shot and usually last 1 to 2 days. Almost all people who receive influenza vaccine have no serious problems from it. However, on rare occasions, flu vaccination can cause serious problems, such as severe allergic reactions. As of July 1, 2005, people who think that they have been injured by the flu shot can file a claim for compensation from the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP).

DS has gotten the shot several times, DD got it, I've gotten it dozens of times, as has DW. Never had any reaction other than a little soreness at the injection site.

Quite a few people correlate coincidences to non-related activities. Getting sick during a virus/cold season is expected. It's just coincidence that the flu shot was given about the same time.
