If your child plays town travel soccer question for u

How is your town handling the recent calendar year change with re: to next years teams and tryouts. Are they having all the kids try out with their calendar year or are the encouraging kids to try out for the year ahead and "play up" to keep teams together?

TIA!

Our team had evaluations based on birth year. My son was "playing up" because he's a late October birthday, now he'll be playing where he should be. His team should be staying the same for the most part. It only effects two of our kids who will be too old to stay on the team. Unfortunately one of them is our goalie and just an all around great kid. We're sad to see him go :(

So the kids weren't even given the option to try out for the year up team (the team the two kids would be trying out for?)

No. They had evaluations for kids who were already in the league as well as tryouts that they were encouraged to attend. They were done by birth year and as far as I know, no one was asked to try out with the older kids.
That said, I would assume if they saw a stand out kid, they would try to bump them up.

same as above poster. Pretty much all kids are trying out and will be playing with their birth year group.

Our town is rather loose with travel. Pretty much coaches run/make teams and not league. My husband coaches 2 travel teams. One team has only one kid right effected by the date change so the team is staying with the birth year division and we are not moving the team up. It's unfortunate to have to lose a boy who we all like so much. One of the other teams this age is moving their team up and he has been offered to play for that team but not sure the boy's decision. We feel horrible but not all kids on this team are ready to play up and they can't move the team for 1 player. My husband's 2nd team has two boys affected which stinks because both boys are 3rd graders just December bdays and good friends with many of the boys. They considered moving the team up in one league and keeping a 2nd team in the right age in another league (and getting a couple new players for that team). But now hearing one kid may move to another league anyway so now again may not move the team up for just the one remaining player. That team has a lot of little kids and later year bdays so it wouldn't be fair to move them up to play against older and typically bigger boys. One league still hasn't announced that they are going with age up for the fall (most likely will but they don't have to until 2017) so we are holding hope they don't and we don't have to deal now but we shall see. A few teams in our league are moving up the whole team to creating 2 teams but many have multiple kids affected by the change.

I'm pretty sure the changes have to be implemented by fall.

August 2017 it must be implemented. Recommended for 2016.

Part of an excerpt for US Youth Soccer org
•Beginning Aug. 1, 2017, all youth soccer sanctioning organizations will form competitions based on birth-year age groups.

•Beginning Aug. 1, 2016, US Youth Soccer will be using the following birth-year “labels” for competition, based upon the season in which competition ends. For example: ?Players born from August 1, 1997 – December 31, 1998 will be labeled as Under-19/20s.
?Players born from January 1, 1999 – December 31, 1999 will be labeled as Under-18s.
?Players born from January 1, 2000 – December 31, 2000 will be labeled as Under-17s.
?Players born from January 1, 2001 – December 31, 2001 will be labeled as Under-16s.
?Players born from January 1, 2002 – December 31, 2002 will be labeled as Under-15s.
?Players born from January 1, 2003 – December 31, 2003 will be labeled as Under-14s.
?Players born from January 1, 2004 – December 31, 2004 will be labeled as Under-13s.
?With the exception of the US Youth Soccer Under-19/20s, the age group “label” will be determined by subtracting the year in which the players participating in the competition were born from the year in which competition ends
