We are getting ready to go away, and while we have traveled with DS a lot, he has only recently started getting sick (just getting over an ear infection)---hence me now trying to have a plan in place in case he gets sick....Do you just look up a local ped or take them to an urgent care place?

My son got chicken pox on the last day of our Florida holiday two years ago, I took him to a local hospital and then to a local walk in clinic, I just looked it up in the yellow pages, and I asked the hotel concierge for help.

I should say, I always take out travel insurance whenever I travel so that if I have an emergency, I can claim it back. And I have had some doozies!

My suggestion would be to call your health insurance company to find out what/who they cover if you need a pediatrician when you are travelling. A lot of companies will cover the costs of taking the baby to the ER, but that is obviously not something you want to do unless it is absolutely necessary.

If they won't cover anything else, you can always ask the conceirge of the hotel you are staying- they should have recommendations (although you might be paying out of pocket).

You can also still call your pediatrician if it is nothing terrible. DD got sick when we were in Spain. We called our ped and he made suggestions on how to make her more comfortable.

Hopefully you won't need to do any of that! Enjoy your trip!

DS got sick in St John (slight fever, runny nose)

I brought a thermometer, tylenol and motrin and I had the ped prescribe an antibiotic just in case

i brought these things with me and I used the therm and tylenol

If it was worse I would have called my ped and asked her what I should do
