If your DH does construction jobs on the side...
My husband has a full time job during the week and is looking for side jobs to do on the weekends. He does sheetrock, installs windows and doors, powerwashes, and anything a handyman can do. Everytime the kids break something they will cry so it is a joke in our family that we say "don't cry Daddy will fix it" and he does. He actually gutted out and redid our whole house. How does your DH find his work? I know with the economy the way it is, it is hard but he is so honest when he prices jobs.
It is hard to get a job at Home Depot because his hours are limited to the weekends. TIA

Re: If your DH does side jobs....
Where does he work? My DH is a carpenter (started off as his side business, now its full time). People are always asking him to do handyman work, but he doesn't do that kind of work and is always looking for someone to refer that work to.
Most of DH's clients are in the city. If you want, you can FM me his information.
To answer the original question, he found work through referrals. He did something for one person. Someone else liked it and asked him to do work for them. From then it just grew. He advertised on craigslist. Then he did work for a writer of apartmenttherapy and got written up with a rave review on there.

DH gets side jobs through referrals. I was going to suggest advertising on Craigslist as well.

I know Craigslist is really good but you hear of those stories and it gives me the creeps. There are so many sick people out there. I am the one who is worried but he is a man. I guess all it takes is one job and he may just keep getting referrals.

Where are you located? We're looking for someone to do our entire bathroom redo--not sure if that's something he could do, but we are desperate to find someone who is reasonably priced.

The only problem is that he works Monday through Friday at his full time job and can only do work on Saturdays and Sundays. We are live in Oceanside.

try reaching out to home improvement offices, he can join a crew that has insurance and he will be covered under them. its hard for him to find jobs himself right now, but he can work for a crew at any siding co.

Re: If your DH does construction jobs on the side...
My DH does high-end kind of stuff such as roof-top patios and decks, and brick on homes and such, and also is always getting these kinds of requests. It would be nice to find this kind of person for him to refer out to.
It seems like business is doing well for him, but the people he works for never have to worry about $$$$ anyways.
Him and his partner started their business with like $13.00 to their name though back in the day.
Now he mostly gets jobs through referrals, and through his friend who has a high-end landscaping business.
DH has even been on a few shows on HGTV!!

Re: If your DH does construction jobs on the side...
My DH is more into the sheetrock, spackling, installing windows and doors, I guess you can say more of the indoor stuff. He can do cement and brick and fences but he really enjoys inside work. He just built an outdoor BBQ in our yard.

Re: If your DH does construction jobs on the side...
My DH has 3 steady clients; One guy "A" he did a lot of work for last year...all through the summer-Mr. "A" has 2 homes to keep DH busy, and then their is this other guy and DH goes there a few times a month, we bill him 1x a month and that works for us. Then the "A" guy referred DH to "B" guy and now "B" guy has DH hopping ---the "B" guys has two homes too and between both these homes DH has steady side work. Sometimes DH needs someone to help him - last year he need someone steady w/ him at Mr. "A"'s house---it has just been word of mouth. DH worked every wkend last summer and only enjoyed Labor Day wkend....but the $ was good. This summer he said he'll work every other wkend and so for that is the wall it has been falling. (my DH does what you say your DH does---)
