If your doctor doesn't do a level II
My doctor's office doesn't do level IIs. Their machine is not equipped for them (I am assuming this is why my sono pics aren't always as good as everyone else's). So they do a 20 weeks "anatomy check". Has anyone had one of these? He said he could send me elsewhere for a level II if I wanted it. I figured I'd have the anatomy check and if anything looks abnormal I would ask for a referrel for a level II.
Thoughts?

Re: If your doctor doesn't do a level II
My Level II was done elsewhere and it is the anatomy check. My OB knew that elsewhere they had much better equipment than the standard OB office. I think your doctor plans to do it in the office to get a general idea but if anything might be suspicious, then you'd be sent elsewhere. Do what you feel most comfortable with, but I would want something to be missed so I would make sure I was sent out for it.

My doctor is sending me elsewhere for the level II. I think most doctors do that unless they have a large practice with the better machines

Re: If your doctor doesn't do a level II
I went to Madonna perinatal for my Level II. I have no idea what an anatomy check is though, never heard of that term.

The Level II is in fact an anatomy scan/check. Some OB's do it at their office (mine does), some will give you a referral to have it done elsewhere.

Re: If your doctor doesn't do a level II
My Doc sent me outside to do this too - I went to Madonna as well.
They do a full anatomy check - all limbs, checking for a cleft palate, counts fingers, toes, checking fetal heartbeat, and also gender if you want to know! They also look at the spine & brain. Very informative and I suggest you go somewhere to do this if your Dr doesn't do it in office.

I also had mine at Madonna, not my OB's office. If you trust your OB and have confidence in him/her, then I would have them do the anatomy check and take it from there.

Re: If your doctor doesn't do a level II
My doc just sent me somewhere else for mine and it was fine with me b/c they had brand new machines, so I got great pictures!

Re: If your doctor doesn't do a level II
to tell you the truth, if your insurance covers it i would go somewhere else for my level II that has a more advanced machine - i'd be slightly worried that with an old machine they wouldn't pick up on something important (like the pen!s )

Re: If your doctor doesn't do a level II
I had to go to Madonna for my Level II.
I guess have the anatomy check and then if the doctor sees anything abnormal, then get the referral for the Level II sonogram.
