If your infant is on table food...
What are they eating for dinner? Looking for new ideas. We haven't started DS on meats yet (waiting until 1 year), so he isn't eating what I'm eating every night. Plus most nights I eat after he goes to bed so I'm making 2 meals (or eating soup or something easy).

DS is almost 8.5 months. I'm looking for new ideas also. He does eat meat but not very often. For dinner it is either pastina with a veggie, oatmeal with fruit, quinoa with veggies, waffles, pancakes or french toast with a fruit. Do you give cheese?

Re: If your infant is on table food...
I made DS lentil soup today (just drained most of the water so it was thick) I make like chicken soup (boil carrots, celery, onions ,chicken for an hour, boil lentils seperately for about 1 hr and put all together and cook another 20 min. I shred the chicken and take out the carrots I want to give DS and cut into small pieces and then scoop him out some lentils and veggies and feed him) He loves it! and this can be froozen into small containers to take out when you need something to give him.

We do pasta with veggies alot. I buy the frozen mixed veggies and boil for 7 mins or so and make half a bag at a time. I make a bunch of pasta and just reheat when needed. We do meatballs and chicken with the veggies as well. Sweet potatoes are good. I have dine grilled cheese.
I would like more ideas as well.

DS is allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, almonds and peanuts, so we don't give cheese.

Re: If your infant is on table food...
I guess I'll add what I do since everyone is looking for ideas We started food late (around 8 months) because of his allergies, and I went straight to table food and skipped purees altogether because we're doing baby led weaning.
I always do a minimum of 2 veggies at dinner. So far we've done cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus (grilled & steamed), carrots, sweet potato (chunks & homemade baked fries), peas, corn, roasted red pepper, roasted rosemary potatoes, roasted beets, avocado, green pepper, zucchini & cucumber. I'm sure there's more but I can't remember right now.
With the veggies I do whole wheat pasta, sometimes with garlic & oil, sometimes with homemade sauce (I use very little on his). Sometimes I add lima beans to the pasta w/ sauce & give those to him too.
Black beans & rice. We just did cuban style & he loved it!
Veggies from pot roast (potato, onions, carrots).

Re: If your infant is on table food...
We do a lot of rice and beans, whole wheat pasta all different ways, chick peas, hummus and pita, I can't remember if you said he's allergic to eggs, but I make a lot of frittatas with all different veggies, quinoa and veggies is a big hit, I'm thinking of trying polenta with some veggies, too.

Re: If your infant is on table food...
Some of the things DD loves for dinner are: meatballs, pasta, meatloaf, chicken (any kind), fish sticks, french fries, sweet potato cut into chunks, avocado, rice and beans, hummus and pita. I gave her home made pea soup that she loved. She really likes anything we are having.

Re: If your infant is on table food...
How do you know how much to give? I was so scared to give DS regular food for fear of choking, but slowly we have been letting him try things. I'm not sure if he is ready for the full transition though because he takes a long time to actually swallow what is in his mouth, he chews it moves it around and is asking for more before he swallows! We tried scrambled eggs this past weekend and it took almost a half hour for him to finish 3 tiny pieces

Re: If your infant is on table food...
Its hard to come up with new ideas without meats but DD's non-meat foods are ditalini pasta with either pasta sauce or pesto, always a side of steamed veggies (i mostly use frozen), always a side of fruit, mac and cheese, broccoli and spinach ricotta cheese cups, sometimes i will throw in a dr praegers fish nugget or broccoli littles, eggplant just steamed, brown rice and lentils, mini raviolis i get at trader joes, homemade pizzas with veggie toppings.

It took forever at first with DS too. I just give him several large chunks of food on his tray, and he eats what he wants. Like tonight, I gave him 2 cauliflower florets, about a dozen sweet potato fries, and probably 2 tablespoons of black beans. He ate all but 3 of the sweet potato fries, all the beans, and maybe a bite of the cauliflower (it's the second time we've tried it). If he takes off too big of a piece he usually spits it right back out. He is at the point where he is trying to shovel food in his mouth, but he's great about chewing so I let him (within reason).

She pretty much eats what we eat. Tonight she had rotisserie chicken and cauliflower.

Re: If your infant is on table food...
my boys are 10 months. i started them on meats at 8 months. i make 3 main dishes for them for dinner, puree them in the blender and freeze them - lentil soup, beef stew, chicken soup. if we are eating something that i would like them to eat as well, i take out a little bit before adding salt and puree it for them. i also freeze veggies mixes - peas & carrots, spinach, squash, sweet potato (etc) and mix them with brown rice, pastina or orzo and give them that as well...

Re: If your infant is on table food...
I do soups for his dinner when he's not eating with us. I pull out the veggies for him to pick at, puree the rest and spoon feed.
Barley is great in soups, it purees really nice. Beans are great too.
Eta: I think I remember your doing baby led weaning, but DS at 11m holds a spoon and dips it into a bowl, and licks it, I spoon feed in between an at 13m he needs less and less help with this.. messy but he's so proud of himself and its so fun
