If your OBGYN is in a group and the dr you regularly saw did NOT deliver your child....
This happened to me I was seeing a Dr and was told if she wasnt on call then her partner would deliver DD. I delveloped a great relationship with my OB. UNTIL.... the on call dr delivered DD. he did an amazing job coaching me and I ended up with a C-section and my scar healed WONDERFUL. u cant even see the line! PLUS i had bad PPD and he helped me though it and talked to DH about it too. so i have been seeing him ever since and I want him to do my next C-section when i get preggers again. BUT i feel unconfortable running into my old OB. has anyone experienced this?
OH and BTW i know she isnt thrilled with me going to him bc i ran into her in my neighborhood and she didnt give me the time or day.

Well, I am not sure we have the same Dr.
I love my ob and she is great. But I had a c-section and we picked a date she was not available. Her partner did the c-section. I honestly was not too thrilled about him when I met him but he did a wonderful job in the OR and coming to see me in the hospital. A few other posters did the same thing. Same OB but delivered by her partner. We all feel we had a great experience with him. Even DH was very pleased how he handled the c-section, how he explained everything, how calm he was. I had asked her if she was OK with it and she said she was.
That being said, I am staying with my orginal OB. But if the times come for #2 and she is not available I feel I will be in as good hands with him as with her.

Re: If your OBGYN is in a group and the dr you regularly saw did NOT deliver your child....
I have an even odder situation as a resident delivered my baby because the dr didn't get there in time. DS was FAST HOwever, my (female) regular ob-gyn would not have been on call. I HATED making an appt to meet the other dr, but once I met him, I loved him. He showed up after DS was born and they were finishing up.
He turned out to be so wonderful I am thinking of switching to him. I'm sure this happens a lot. Can you see both if there is a chance either could deliver your next child? Thye probably have a thicker skin than you think and even expect it in such a practice.

Nancy, I wouldn't worry about running into the other doctor. You obviously know that he was a wonderful doctor and he helped you through a rough time.

The on call doctor delivered both of my kids. Once from the practice, the other from an entirely different practice.
It didn't diminish who I want as my doctor. I respect the ones that helped delivered but in the end, at least for me, it was all about the L&D nurses.

Maybe it is just your feeling uncomfortable? I know that I will most likely go back to my original doctor, but even if I went to the one who delivered DS (she was GREAT and I love her!) it's a small practice and they all help each other out. There are three docs and they don't mind if patients switch between them. I guess it's because they're all really good!

If they are partners I don't think the dr will care. Its not like you are leaving the practice to go someplace else.

Re: If your OBGYN is in a group and the dr you regularly saw did NOT deliver your child....
My baby was delivered by scheduled C-section by a different doctor in the group. They were glad I did not insist on fitting in to my original doctor's schedule. The doctor who delivered my baby took care of my after care. When the pathology report came back showing I had blood clots on the placenta, the delivery doctor is the one I consulted with several times and the one who eventually reviewed the reports from a hematologist. It seemed natural that he would become my doctor. I ran into my old doctor in the office and it was not weird at all. Now I would accept an appointment with anyone in the practice.

I agree with the L & D nurses!! They are really the ones that get you through the delivery!!!
My Dr. saw me when I was admitted, saw me again4 hours later & came back about 30 minutes before DS was born!
He's like a catcher that stepped in at the last minute, made a GREAT play & gets the credit for the whole game!!!!
