If you're applying for UPK, do you also hold a spot at regular school in case DC doesn't get it?

The UPK lottery in my district is usually not until May. Registration for next year at my DD's school starts tomorrow. If she doesn't get UPK, I'm afraid she will be shut out of the regular 4 yr old program at school. If she does get and I hold her spot, I'm out of a few hundred dollars (but saving in the long run since UPK is free). Some moms are chancing it since enrollment has been down at school, but I can't seem to make the call on what to do.

I would put down a deposit. We decided not to do the lottery bc we don't want him to go 5 mornings a week, we want 3 longer days. But before I knew the specifics we planned to put a deposit down just in case. Like u said you still come out ahead if u get free pk

Yes, I put down a deposit at her current school for pre-k and I applied to UPK also. We'll be out money if she does get into UPK but it will even out in the end.
