If you're put on bedrest, how does that affect your maternity leave after delivery?
This thought actually terrifies me. I only have 6 weeks off once I go out, regardless of when delivery is. I have 12 weeks total if I use FMLA. If I go out early due to bedrest, that will cut into my post-delivery time with my baby. It just seems so unfair. What do you think?

FMLA provides 12 weeks of job protection in a 12 month period. Does your company have a short term disability plan? Regardless of that, like I said the 12 week clock begins ticking on your first day out.

Re: If you're put on bedrest, how does that affect your maternity leave after delivery?
Much to my devastation....my company has 6 weeks short term disability that starts the day you go out and it MUST run concurrent with the 12 weeks of FMLA. I honestly think this should be illegal. FMLA is supposed to provide employees with a 12 week UNPAID leave...yet employers have the option of running it concurrent to other forms of Paid leave. So what I thought would be a sufficient maternity leave for my EBF wishes has now turned into a nightmare of going back a month and a half earlier than I thought...and that's IF I work till that absolute last second possible. I just can't do this. The logistics of it are too much and I'm beyond frustrated.

i have been on best rest since i was 17 weeks, i am now 30 weeks. My FMLA started the first day i was put on bed rest. and i also get short term disability until 6-8 weeks until after delivery depending on whether i have a vaginal or c section. And i am going back to work then. So i basically dont really get a "maternity leave".

Why do you think you will have to go out early? I would try and work till the last possible day. I know it is hard as I did it with my last 2 and will with this one so I can have as much time as possible at home after the baby comes.

Re: If you're put on bedrest, how does that affect your maternity leave after delivery?
I was on modified bedrest for 10wks during my pregnancy. I rec'd the NYS disability during that time as well as use all my sick and vacation time. I went back to work for a month and then delivered which left me with 2 wks left on my FMLA. Needless to say I was technically "fired" after those 2wks and had to pay COBRA insurance until I went back to work. I did get the 6wk state disability after delivery.
