If you've been to Punta Cana - please come in
Where did you stay and would you recommend it?
What is the atmosphere like - party, romantic/couples, R&R, spring breakish, etc?
I know it depends on the resort so I'm especially interested if you stayed at Excellence (formerly known as Secrets Excellence)...that's where we are considering staying...

we have been to Punta Cana and had a wonderful time... we stayed at Iberostar Dominicana... we are huge fans of Iberostar resorts and highly recommend them... it just depends what you are looking for... at Iberostar you will usually have lots of different people and it is a great resort for families...

Well, we aren't bringing Jake so I'm not really looking for a totally family geared resort. If I see other kids around it's just going to make me miss him and feel guilty.

We stayed at Excellence (when it was Secrets) and absolutely loved it!
If you do an old search on here from 8/05, I had posted a review and pictures. I'll see if I can find it and bump it.
We thought it was even better than Sandals where we went for our HM and it was a lot cheaper!

Dh and I went to Secrets Excellence in Punta Cana for our honeymoon - May '05. It was awesome! We'd go back in a heartbeat!

I stayed at the Iberostar Punta Cana (sister of the Dominicana). The Punta Cana one has been renovated. They both share same amenities.
I highly recommend it!!

I stayed at Iberostar Bavarro - atttached to the above mentioned Iberostars - shares properties but is adults only (the other 2 aren't). very nice, very relaxing. I went quite a few years back but I do like the Iberostar chain in general.

We stayed at the Occidental Allegro Punta Cana... it was a really nice, relaxing vacation. it was all inclusive, and yes, there were kids there.

I've stayed at Secrets and I can tell you that my husband and I are DYING to go back. We would have already if we didn't have kids (no kid under 16 resort) It was so romantic (especially when you see a wedding going on there  )
We did the dinner on the beach one night too.. they staked out tiki torches at sundown and we had our own butler serve us dinner with champagne and then we went horsebacking riding on the beach. The club was fun too. There was always something going on so we never ventured off to do anything else in the area but there are a ton of choices if you do want to. They also have a casino (small, but fun) and they give you play money too. Def a great time. If you do decide to go, have a great time!

we HM at Secrets Excellence and were amazed by it. We liked it because there were activities, but no pressure to particpate.....they'd come around, tell u what was going on, then leave you alone.
It WAS couples only which was NICE. No party going young adults, no kids. Alot of Europeans though, so we saw many topless women (some of which did NOT need to be topless).
It's on the ocean side of DR, so the water was rough. We hung out by the pool. The horseback riding booked up fast, so we paid extra $$ for a moonlit ride on the beach.
We did the dolphin swim excursion..not worth it. It was to the local "aquarium" and you got in the pool with the dolphins for like 8 minutes if that. You got to pet them, then the group went to the far side of the pool, and the dolphins would pull you across the pool, that was it.
3 years ago, the food was amazing, the atmosphere and service was amazing. One morning, there was no fresh pineapple, the chef brought it from the back to my table (of course, I was wearing a Sammy Sosa tee shirt and he is from the DR so maybe I got prefrential treatment).
There is a spa and nightclub on the premises, neither of which we used so I can't say anything about it. The nightclub is near the front entrance, so it's nowhere near the rooms. The rooms were great! Ask for a 2nd floor room (which is really a 3rd floor...they did ground, 1st , 2nd). You get cathedral ceilings and it feels so roomy. EACH AND EVERY room had a jacuzzi tub which was nice, and when we were there, you got FREE adult tv (translation...PORN).

haha!! I remember the porn! lol and I agree about the room on the top floor. We got an oceanfront room on the top floor also. I remember sitting out on the balcony and hearing the ocean.. it was beautiful.
They also do a beach party one night too. like I said, tons of things to do.
