If you've been to the Riverhead Aquarium
Is it an all day trip? Or only a few hours?

Re: If you've been to the Riverhead Aquarium
Few hours at best. We went last summer and saw all there was to see in an hour or so. I was kind of disappointed with it.

Re: If you've been to the Riverhead Aquarium
My kids hated it - they freaked out when they saw the shark tank. They ran out of there screaming bloody murder.....
Its not really worth the trip. Maybe in the summer when the outdoor stuff is open but I wouldn't go back.

I wasn't impressed, I probably won't go back. I would pick another aquarium IMO

Re: If you've been to the Riverhead Aquarium
Few hours at best and that's on a sunny warm day when you can enjoy the outside and have lunch there.
Otherwise if it's cold and rainy, you're stuck inside and you can do that in an hour...tops.
It's better when it's nice out.
But let me know when you're going

Re: If you've been to the Riverhead Aquarium
It depends on who you go with. If I go with friends, we are there for several hours. If it's nice out, you can really spend a lot of time playing outside by the marsh, coy pond, monkeys, etc. I would only go on a nice day when you can do all the outdoor activities.

Re: If you've been to the Riverhead Aquarium
We thought about going a few times but every time everyone tells us if you go to the NY Aquarium in brooklyn it just doesn't compare - so we have never bothered. Have you tried that one - it is a great aquarium mostly indoors but you do have to go between buildings (and there is a sea lion demonstration outside if you want to go to it). It is a really easy drive btw.

A few hours at best. With my kids I can be in and out in less than 90 minutes.

Re: If you've been to the Riverhead Aquarium
I have gone twice in March and really should have waited until the nicer weather. There is not all that much to it and its even less without all the outside stuff. I would go back again, just not when its chilly.

We are heading out there today - I'm kinda bummed that it's not getting the best reviews but we'll go anyway! How far are you from there?

Re: If you've been to the Riverhead Aquarium
It was only about an hour and a half for us. And it was so hot the day we went, we couldn't even sit outside and watch the sea lion show.
As someone else mentioned, I was disappointed. I guess because I also grew up going to the one in Coney Island. It was not worth the price of admission. It's cheaper to go to the one in Brooklyn and they have more.

Re: If you've been to the Riverhead Aquarium
I prefer the NY Aquarium by far. Mostly because of the tanks. The ones in Riverhead are much smaller and harder for younger kids to see the fish.
They "might" have the sealion show. Not sure with the weather.
You will be done in just a few hours. It's not that big at all. They have the "touch the stingrays" tanks.

Can you go some place else instead? Like the LI Children's Museum?

We like it there, it's small, but cute. You can check out the Dino Museum while you are out that way too.

Re: If you've been to the Riverhead Aquarium
I thought it was not as good as the NY Aquarium, but Gio had an amazing time there and loved it. He dug the sharks and fed them...thought the seals were hysterical and stayed in the "cave" for a while with them, and was completely all over the penguins.
It is only a few hours at best, but then I got DH to take me to Tanger...lol We went the week before I delivered Baby V.

Re: If you've been to the Riverhead Aquarium
Andrew had so much fun there. We went in the winter and no one was there. He ran all over the place. He really loved it and it wasn't too overwhelming for him, just enough walking, etc. He loved feeding the stingrays and watching the Sea Lions swim.
I am def bringing him back this month

Re: If you've been to the Riverhead Aquarium
We used to take our fifth graders there. They were done after a few hours. With the exception of the sea lion show, there isn't many things to do. I agree with PP, the NY Aquarium was much better (we used to go there before they banned city trips) It's best on a nice day because a lot of the exhibits are outside.
