If you've ever given someone a GPS as a gift...
how was it received?
I want to get 1 for my Dad, he really wanted one a few yrs ago when they first came out. but I am not sure he still wants it. he doesn't really "need" it  my folks don’t go on road trips.
my Mom told me last night that it was too much $ to spend - which is typical. she doesn't like it when anyone buys her or my Dad a gift and it's more than $50

I got my Dh one for Christmas. He'd been talking about getting one ever since we moved to FL but then hadn't mentioned it in the few months before the holidays. I decided to get him it anyway and didn't think he'd use it that much, but we use it ALL the time!

I got my mom one for christmas last year and she loves it.
She drives around alot and goes on lots and lots of road trips.
THey had always used maps before.

DH got me one for christmas this past year- after I specifically told him I didn't want one
Needless to say- it's been in his car most often. It was a gift for HIM not me. 
If your dad has mentioned wanting one, I would get it! Just keep the receipt and tell him you won't feel bad if he's decided he really doesn't need it.
I will admit- the GPS would have come in handy quite a few times since "I" got one. Too bad it's never in my car when I need it.

Got one for DH on XMas. We don't go anywhere...but he was obsessed with having one...so I got it and it now sits in it's box in the car.

I think it's one of those things that you can survive without it - but once you get it, you LOVE it and can't imagine doing without.
I am sure he will love it

DH had wanted one for a year, so I bought it for him for XMas after telling him for months that I hadn't found the one he wanted.
Needless to say, he was excited and jumped up and down and gave me a hug when he unwrapped it.

We got FIL one for Christmas because he is constantly asking for directions to our house or other places he has to go.
Needless to say, I think it was the biggest waste of money because I don't think he has used it. Ugh!

We received one as a gift from MIL and we loved it. You never know when it can come in handy. I would get a gift receipt just in case but I don't see him with not liking it.

I haven't given, but DH received one from his parents & he doesn't need it either. However, he is a boy, and loves gadgets, so he does "challenge it" it & make it show him how to get places he already knows, like work, and, disobeys it, and tries to see how well it recalculates.
So, if your dad likes gadgets, he'll love it even if he doesn't need it.

Got one for my sister. Over a year later, she still thanks me for it. Then again, she could get lost going from her bedroom to her bathroom.... (and she admits it...)
