I'm afraid something is wrong with my cat
I brought her to the vet last month because her lips were bright red and she had a rash on her belly. Dr. gave her a shot of steroids and had her on antibotics for 5 days, and it cleared up. She's always had a rather bald belly. When I had her spayed 6 years ago the fur just never really grew back all the way. She's also a licker...
But I've noticed the past week or so that she is losing alot of fur (I find clumps around the house). Her belly is totally bald and now the inside of her thighs on her hind legs are furless. She also has a nice big oval bald spot on one of her front legs on the outside, as well as the inside. In addition to that, I noticed this morning the outside joint on her one of her hind legs is all raw like she's been biting at it.
I just called the vet, and I can't get her there until next Thursday night. I'm just worried about the clumps of fur I've been finding.
She hasn't been acting any different and is eating and drinking.
I just hate taking her to the vet because she's such a bad paitent and gets so incredibly stressed out.
Anyone else ever have a cat who was losing it's fur?

Can you call and say it is an emergency?? It just doesn't sound right.

It's difficult because I work an hour from the vet in one direction and 30 minutes from home in another direction. It's very difficult to get out of work early enough to get there based on their stupid hours (but I love the doctor there).
I think I may end up taking her to one of those emergency clinics.

Is the bald spot possibly from licking? Those sound like prime licking spots to me.

She's definately licking alot, more than she used to. She's such an odd cat (I LOVE that about her!), I think she has some sort of obsessive compulsive disorder. Even the woman that watches her for me when we are away says that. DH who hardly pays attention to her even made a comment about her baldness.

Re: I'm afraid something is wrong with my cat
i saw something like that when i went to a shelter when i got my kitty. we were interested in this one cat, that i saw online and they told us she had stress problems (she was at the shelter for over a year and wasnt happy with that) that is why her hair was missing. she was on a herbal form of valium they told us. we didnt adopt her, b/c she was a biter/scratcher, but someone else adopted her the next week.
is your cat really stressed out? did you move or start a new routine? you said your DH doesnt pay attention to her, maybe she just needs more attention.

The cat could also be allergic to fleas, but stress is a really good cause for licking! I (again) urge you to get that Cat Confidential book, it will explain a hell of a lot about your cats behavior. It was a fantastic read and once I read it, I understood a lot more about about my cats relationship with each other and how I could help them in stressful times.
Have you got more than one cat???

Well, we've been in the house over a year, so I don't think that's the problem. She does get plenty of attention from me, as soon as I'm home and done with doing stuff around the house, she's on my lap until bedtime. She doesn't really look for attention from DH, and bascially ignores his presence (which is a switch, because she was very possessive over him when we were dating). It's all about Mommy now.
I do only have the one cat, as she is very possessive, and does not like other animals, or anything that really takes my attention away from her.
She is not acting out of the ordinary though, which I guess is a good sign.
