I'm angry. selling my house and i hear...

"Your house is in too good of shape!"

HUH? i put over $80,000.00 into my home, to make it a lovely home.
MLS #2086162

i keep hearing that "you have a beautiful home" and those that come from the house across the street say "such a better house than THAT one." so...

i know that people are looking at the bottom of the market, but what happened to "move in condition" which is what i made my house "LIVE IN CONDITION!"
i am so frustrated. why make my house better??
it's just the market, i guess, but it's so frustrating!

please send your 'selling vibes'.

THANK YOU!!!

Sorry...I hope you find a buyer soon. We're in the village too (saw you yesterday) & we paid about the same for our house & DH has spent the last 6 months redoing EVERYTHING about the house. The previous owners did NOTHING in 20 years to the house or property. Your house is a welcome change to what IS out there for sale.

It was nice to meet you (you had the baby!).
We had someone come yesterday DURING OUR YARD SALE! from across the street and this is the concesus? It was way embarrassing having anyone over here yesterday, but i wouldn't turn it down ... it was perspective buyer! The client was very happy with what he saw, but... "didn't need enough work." UGH!

We're running into a similar problem. People don't want to pay the extra $$ for a house that is "done". For some reason they would rather pay less and have a ton of work to do Chat Icon Chat Icon .

well- that's maybe b/c as nice as the house is- it's not their taste and would rather buy something that needs work- and make it there own

if I was staying in NY I was NOT looking for a redone house-

I live in a complex and in our case there is literally a $1k difference between ours and a unit that hasn't been updated since the 70's. Just doesn't make sense mathematically to me.

I'm in NJ, are we are getting the same type of thing. People are saying it's priced higher than other in the area, but the others in the area need so much work! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I know... and you listed your home on craigslist, just as i had in the beginning. i am getting a ton of exposure with the realty, but not the kind of exposure that i want. i am getting many first time home buyers that love it. b/c they are going and looking at the junk with the lower price tag, then they see my house, and tell me how beautiful it is. of course, i sympathize b/c first time home buyers are scared and are afraid of the higher priced tag... oh....

good luck to all of you out there selling!!

Re: I'm angry. selling my house and i hear...

We already had 1 couple from craigslist come see the house...and we only posted it on Friday! In the 2 months we had it listed with an agent, we only had 1 person come see it. All the others came either from an open house, or people who drove by and knocked on the front door!

We have it listed for $479,500 on craigslist (we had it for $499 with the realtor). The couple that came to look at it said their max budget is 440K. I told them I'd be willing to come down to $470. To me...30K different in a mortgage for 30 years is very minimal....I hoping they want to take it further. I asked them, and they have been looking for 2 years for a house! To me, that means they are looking for the impossible...they want something for $440K, but with everything completely redone...and they are not finding it, which is why they have been looking for over 2 years!

Good luck with your house!

I completely agree. Dh and I would rather pay less and fix the house up to our liking.

I feel your pain. I thought by making our house completely updated and move in condition, we'd find a buyer. No such luck (yet).

I'll try to keep my head up if you do!Chat Icon

We bought a house that needed some things done but no, we were not looking for a home that needed a major overhaul. If my DH were not handy, I would have insisted on buying a house that didn't seem to need much. I did not want the headaches of hiring people for major jobs right after I just finished with the headache of home buying.

The right people will come along to buy your house. I think that the key is that you cannot expect to be fully compensated for money that you put in after you bought the house. Now that we are doing a drivewaly and walkway and some landscaping, I am realizing that no one would think of the price of that when bidding on our house in comparison to a house that will need that done after the purchase, KWIM?

I'm sorry. If it makes you feel any better, we are in contract on a home that is almost perfect. We wanted to be able to make it "our" home by painting, decorating, doing small projects, but we were definitely looking for something that didn't need a lot. I'm pregnant, DH isn't all that handy, and we didn't want to take on a huge project for our first home. The right buyer will come along for you and be thrilled that it's move in ready - I know I am!

I agree ... we are also looking for something "almost perfect" ... neither of us are very handy, and my job is very demanding of my time.

If we didn't really really want to buy in Nassau, we would definitely be interested in looking at your home. It looks like you did a beautiful job, and you should be proud. There's a lot of CR@P out there on the market!!! Chat Icon

The *right* buyer is out there, just be patient. Chat Icon

This is exactly how we feel. I want something that is as move in ready as possible. I'd rather pay more for updating that has already been done than pay less and worry about hiring people to do the work for us.

Good luck! Chat Icon

Re: I'm angry. selling my house and i hear...

wow I would have given anything to have seen your house a year ago. With all the houses we saw I never said, "Oh I want something I have to fix up". But that is what we ended up with because it was what we could afford. Buyers can still do work to any house they buy and make it their own. Whether it's paint, cabinets, flooring, etc..... I'm sorry you are having a hard time. I think you did a great job on your house and you should be proud of that. The right buyer will come along. Lots of seller vibes!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon
