Yes, she has been fine since Christmas when she threw the olives up. Then, she got sick this time b/c she was given something with fat in it. Since she is only ten pounds it really effected her.

Thank you to everyone for the prayers!!!

Dani, I am so glad to hear from you and that she is doing a tiny bit better!!! That's great news!!!

Btw, this could have started back then b/c I don't know if you know but olives are VERY fatty. It's a good kind of fat, like avocados, but it's FAT. So maybe this set her off and then the cake was what really harmed her most.

I don't care what anyone says, your nephew needs to be spoken to and you are his aunt, I can't see why you cannot do that???Chat Icon

Also, my WONDERFUL Doctor called me - and validated the cause of this for me. At first, I didn't want to 'blame' my nephew even though he knows not to feed the dogs - I didn't want him to be punished, just told that sometimes when you think something is so innocent, that it CAN harm an animal - not to mention cost us a very large amount of money. It's life and he's a child - so, that's all that I was really hoping for. But, to make sure I wasn't unfairly accusing him, I asked Dr. Gurtman (our wonderful Vet) what caused this and his words:

a blast of something high in fat - not even just the chocolate but the sponge cake from the birthday cake has oil in it along with butter and eggs. Even something so small as that - and even just a tiny piece of it could set an animal of her size, especially a schnauzer, off.

I asked if this was something that schnauzers can just get - he said no, a blast of something fatty HAS to set it off - they cannot just 'get it' naturally but they are more sensitive TO fatty foods b/c of it.

OK, then I asked if she could have gotten this from contaminated water or maybe eating snow - he said no, that's what causes parvo which she tested negative for. He said, bottom line, it was a fatty food that caused this.

He then said as soon as she is done at the Emergency place I am to pick her up and bring her to him -- So, Monday morning she is going to him to continue the IV drip and meds until this is fully out of her system.

Aww I hope she's feeling better soon. Pancreatitis sucks, my moms dog had that, but it seems like you caught it in time to get her good treatment!

You poor thing. Keeping my thoughts with you. Chat Icon

If you ever get stuck, there is a 24 hour emergency full specialty place in Bohemia I used, and I was very happy with the care there.

Re: I'm beside myself --

She's safe and sound at Dr. Gurtman's which makes me feel so good b/c he is the absolute best Vet - we adore him as does Reagan.

She has her personality back which is SUCH A RELIEF to see!! She was wagging her tail when I visited her and happy. Then, Dr. Gurtman called me and said she had an ALMOST NORMAL POOP! Her first in several days!! YAY!!

So, she is staying overnight to get fluids all night and then tomorrow afternoon we are going to pick her up -- then, it is a diet of boiled chicken and rice for the next few days. We will then slowly put her back on her normal food.

Poor Reagy! But she is doing well and Charlotte is very excited to have her back home soon!!!!

Re: I'm beside myself --

This happened to my maltese 3 days after I came home from the hospital with my son. Wednesday night he didnt eat but seemed fine, threw up around 11pm and then again around midnight. Usually if he doesnt eat he throws up bile, its happened before so we didnt think anything of it. Well we got up at 6am and my kitchen floor was FILLED with vomit and diahrea..EVERYWHERE. He was in his cage and couldnt move. We rushed him to the hospital and all they kept saying was he is dehydrated and his BP is LOW and they will try there best. A few hours later they call and said...we did all these tests we dont see anything but something may be in his intestines, but he wont make it if he needs surgery! They put him on something to make him keep pooping and eventually his bp went back up and he started eating. he was in the hospital from wed-sat and honestly we still have no idea what it was. He only eats a human food diet, bc he refuses to eat dog food. It cost us $2600.00 but we were happy to have him home!

Re: I'm beside myself --

OK so Reagan came home finally.

This was good in many ways but mostly for Charlotte.

As much as we missed Reagan we understood that she was at the Vet getting better. Once we started getting better reports we could handle it but for Charlotte, who doesn't understand why Reagan is not home, she was just beside herself.

She would walk over to Reagan's bed and just sit down and sigh -- then whimper! She would pace, wasn't sleeping the same, and was nervous all the time. She would sniff Reagan's favorite toys and cry. It was SO sad - she would even start to get upset if we mentioned Reagan's name.

I had no idea how attached they had become since we got Reagan six months ago. Charlotte really feels like she is her baby. They sleep together, do everything together.

So, once Reagan came home Charlotte licked her all over and just cried with happiness! She was SO thrilled! Then, Reagan and her played together, wrestled, and everything else they always do.

I've been spoon-feeding Reagan cooked white rice and boiled plain chicken. She is also taking all the meds that Dr. Gurtman sent her home with. She is doing so well though! She has not had any diarrhea since being home and she even had two healthy poops!

She is back to her playful self as well.

We are so glad to have our missing puzzle piece right back where she belongs - everything feels 'right' again and complete. Things just weren't the same without her.
