I'm getting pi$$ed at Alex's daycare

There is one baby - Joshua - who is ALWAYS sick. The women who runs the daycare has a granddaughter who also works there, and that's Josh's "favorite" - she worked as a nanny for the family for a few months so they all love him. He was getting so sick that the doctor made his mom take him out of daycare for about 5 months while the granddaughter took care of him. During those 5 months Alex was SICK FREE. But he came back in May and ever since, Alex has been sick every week. Whenever I drop her off, I notice Josh is often sick, but still there - he always has a runny nose, a cough, etc.

Usually I keep Alex out of daycare when she has so much as a sneeze. But, this week Alex has a little cold - watery eyes, a little cough, but we've been nebulizing her and she's fine - no temperature, so I put her in daycare.

I just got a call from daycare asking me to bring her home. ***? You're going to tell me you allow that sick little baby in daycare almost everyday but I have to take my daughter home? Should I say something???

I would definitely say something. If they have a sick policy it needs to apply to ALL the kids.

absolutely say something...and if they blow it off, go to the director...go to the owner if it's a franchise/chain.

Check their handbook/policies on sick children.

But I bet once you say something they'll insist he has allergies and is not really sick.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Sydney also needed the nebulizer - every 4 hours and we got a doctors note stating that she is okay and not contagious but that she needs the treatment. They did the treatments there 2x a day for about a week until the doctor gave us the all clear. Maybe this could help you.

If it was Emma - I would say something.

I would also be prepared to switch daycares if I didn't like what the owner had to say.

I would definately say something. Maybe along the lines of "well, she wouldn't be sick if it wasn't for so and so. If you are making me pick her up, you should also make his parents pick him up too."

I would def say something. I would tell them look my childs symptoms are those of allergies and your gonna make me take her homme but your gonna let joshua comei n and get every kids sick in hear maybe if you send him home then my daughter wouldn't be getting sick I would tell them did you notice that when he wasn't here that les kids were getting sick but now that he is back they are getting sick again.

I would also go and talk to the head of the daycare and complain about this as well.

I absolutely agree. Say something. Why are they asking you to pick her up? Does she have a fever or is it just because of the nebulizer?

ETA: Get a note from your ped saying she isn't contagious. They can't make her stay out thenChat Icon

Re: I'm getting pi$$ed at Alex's daycare

Its hard to blame the sickness on one kid. Daycare's are very germy places. Every kid that i know that goes to daycare is sick all the time for the first year. My dd was 2 when i put here in and she was so sick she had mono. But after the first year, she was ok. It could be a simple thing like a kid sneezes on a toy, then another kid picks it up and puts it in their mouth. Its really hard to contol.
I know how annoying it is, but there isnt much you can do about it.
Good luck.

Re: I'm getting pi$$ed at Alex's daycare

I would discuss this with them, but leave Josh out of the discussion. Today was about Alex being taken home and I would express that you feel it is not fair to ask you to pick her up under the circumstances. If you are getting upset with the center you may wish to look for a new place.
I loved Molly's infant daycare until something happened that I was unhappy with the resolution. At that point I found a new place and have been sooo much happier ever since.
